My name is Jon and I like gas rams.

Don't shoot it without a good breech seal. It's just an o ring.

I hope you have the right crown seal I’m pretty sure they used 2 different gas rams in the Evo. I see two different seals listed for them. In 2 different diameters.
I'm not any more. She is away in her case until new seals arrive. Just had to get a taste of what she could do

Should be available at a good hardware store or if not for some reason a hydraulic repair shop. Crown seal, yeah, that's the issue. Mine weren't turned they were poured (cast). Not saying it can't be turned though. Take it apart and see. Maybe your seal is ok. It's probably never been overpressurized. Most owners never shoot them. And the previous owner had a lot of guns to rotate to where he shot it. Same for me. I got a sporting springer arsenal! And how old was the gentleman? That gun is probably barely used. Open it. My ;.177 Sirocco is never rebuilt in 35 years! I'll open it soon though.
I don't know how they get them serviced in UK. Last I researched they are lost. Knibbs had them but no more for a long time. Haven't searched it in a while since my concerns are alleviated.
I got a couple from Davis Schwessinger from when he was an importer. And he sold out. Enough for my guns.

My name is Ron and I love THEOBEN gas rams.

I just STOLE a like new .177 Evolution from Airguns Of Arizona that was described on their Pre-owned page as "very good condition but shooting weakly". Asking price, $400.

Immediately realizing not only that was a great price for a "very good condition" Evolution shooting weakly, but nevertheless a leap-of-faith gamble on a $400 bet, and AoA is very conservative in their condition descriptions, also that I am the PERFECT buyer for that particular gamble, I JUMPED ON THAT SUCKER LIKE A HOUND ON A BONE!

Why was I the PERFECT buyer? Because I have not only a fitting to increase pressure in the gas ram, but a floor-type PCP pump to do so, AND a replacement pistol head that has resided in a zip-lock bag in a dark drawer for 25 years (in case it came to that).

Thankfully but not unexpectedly, the rifle is virtually new; as in UNUSED. It indeed shot very weakly. But also thankfully, after increasing the ram pressure it now shoots 12 foot pounds with 7.9 or 8.4 JSBs consistently; as in 4-5 FPS standard deviations all the time, with every shot string. And I expect that to improve with break-in.

I believe whoever owned this Evolution and dozens of vintage ten-meter rifles that AoA apparently bought from an estate must have purposely reduced the power on the Evolution but preferred shooting his vintage ten-meter rifles more, so never put more than a few dozen pellets through my Evo. Good thing, because Theoben gas-piston parts are now utterly Unobtanium. I can keep that new piston head squirreled away for use when and if ever needed.

Now you're REALLY gonna hate me. After applying $200 in AoA gift certificates I'd won in my shooting competitions, my out-of-pocket for the like new Evolution was $236 (including $36 shipping). My $236 pre-owned Evolution-

The similar-vintage Weaver V-16 scope completes a match made in heaven. This sucker SHOOTS LIKE A HOUSE AFIRE!
Holy mackerel Andy that's HOT!

I like Gas Rams too. I think the shot cycle is smoother. I really like the adjustability of them and wish they were all set up to facilitate that.
A week ago I probably would have fought you tooth and nail over which is smoother. Turns out me only having experience with lightweight budget gas rams tarnished my views a bit. I also got one of those ASP20s in this week and I have got to say that gun keeps up with the best of them. Ive been putting of grabbing an HW90 but I think that's coming next.

I do prefer the cocking stroke of a coil spring though. I like how it eases you into the weight rather than having instant resistance.
