At the New Mexico matches where the targets are painted so intricately, we've politely asked folks to not take a shot as a "sighter" on the targets at places NOT the kill zone. Otherwise, when really struggling, some people will use up one of their shots to verify scope zero by shooting at a clean area of paint, the head for example, when the kill zone is nowhere near the head.Only issue with snazzy targets is they end up looking like this after 1 match.
The repaint crew has there work cut out if repainting monthly .. ask me how i know LOL !!
I sure am not an artist. Usually the reducers take most of the hitsOnly issue with snazzy targets is they end up looking like this after 1 match.

The target painters for the NM match strategically make it easy to repaint around the kill zone so it stymies plans when they've got pellet strikes far from the kz.
In the SVFTC we're slowly weeding out the older KZ reducer/s type targets. patterns tho vary greatly and all get the snot beat out of them monthly !! here about 2/3rds of our invertoryI sure am not an artist. Usually the reducers take most of the hits
100% correct. In field target, every shot counts, either for ya or against ya.I would think practice shots would not be allowed in a match ?
so your sayin' people "waste " a point (as a miss) to verify a target ?100% correct. In field target, every shot counts, either for ya or against ya.
If you're referencing my comment a couple posts ago, read it again.

We have been using reducers for 2 years for the Xtreme matches and haven’t lost a reducer yet. We even shoot them with rimfire. In looking at your inventory there are a lot of Gamo targets in there. They will taco and have reducers damaged with a Red Rider. In the day they were probably sufficient. With the newer PCP’s the technology has evolved and so must the targets. In the SVFTC we're slowly weeding out the older KZ reducer/s type targets. patterns tho vary greatly and all get the snot beat out of them monthly !! here about 2/3rds of our invertory

They do get beat up. That’s why I use AR on the paddles and the reducers are only $10 to replace. But usually you can just turn it over and it’s like new.Yea our GAMO's when first put into service had DOUBLED face plates welded together, second layer on strike paddle too. Reducers welded on.
Yes indeed in 9 seasons the reducers have rolled inward like potato chips and get pounded out once a season.
The Rhynos & Copies, Target art and some unknowns are becoming our primary sets.
Always need to reinforce the WHY FOR guys can't shoot with rifles above 20 fpe !!! .... made a target too rugged & heavy the 12 fpe crowd starts having issue.
Thus the game of keeping all the differing class shooters happy

Heck in 10 years we may be shooting lasers
