My NEW .22 cal Evanix Max is Shooting 2-3 inch groups. HELP!

I got an Evanix Max semi auto in .22 cal new from the factory. I was warned that you need to clean the grease out of the barrel since it was straight from the factory. I ran patches through until they came out clean. now at 35 yards it is shooting wild. Occasionaly three shots will group within an inch but most the time I'm getting a ton of Flyers. So a normal group is like 2 or 3 inches. My only thought is that I am breaking the sound barrier because my pellets are not heavy enough. The heaviest ones I have are 18gr JSBs. Could it be that I am still breaking the sound barrier with those and need to use even heavier pellets? Or something else? I don't have a chronograph.
Theory 2: do these barrels need to be "broken in" or something?

What shooting position are you using?

Check your scope mounts for secure fit.
Try that scope on a known good gun.
Work on trigger control. It is important for powder burning guns, but 100x more so for air guns.

Even slightly windy conditions will effect pellets strangely. Are your holes in the paper nice and round, or are you getting key-hole or oblong holes in paper?

Hey, thanks for the tip. I had a hugette on there so that should be pretty precise. I did try it without the suppressor and there are no baffles in the shroud. I think I may have got a bad barrel or some thing. I got the same gun in .177 cal at the same time and its dead on accurate. At this point I guess I'll try and shoot a few tins if pellets through it and see if leding up the barrel helps...or try some super heavy ammo.

It sounds like you are guessing at the 1100 fps. Yes that would be way too fast for most of today's pellets. Without a chrono it is very difficult to help you. We do know that JSB pellets in certain guns like certain fps. For example, my old Marauder doesn't like anything over 920 fps with the jsb. They flock all over the place and anything above 920.
We also know that the Impact for example, likes the heavies at 830 fps according to Ted. The "out of the box" specs say that your gun has a MAX fps of 910 with the JSB pellets which is what they manufacturer recommends.

Here is my advice. Clean the barrel. No I mean really clean it. Just running patches through doesn't get the junk out. I used wet patches and balistol to clean mine. I also scrubbed it with a nylon bristle brush with balistol. That is , AFTER I ran patches through to come out clean. It wasn't clean. So clean it well to be sure to have a good starting baseline. . Then, select one pellet type. I suggest JSB because they work so well in everything I've shot. Start shooting and don't worry too much about the groups. just get some pellets through. Some barrels take 100-200 shots before they come in line. After the barrel gets seasoned, check for grouping then. It is still won't hold a group after that, then I would suspect there is a problem. But let's figure out one thing at a time.

Be calm :) This will work itself out.
