My new Dream-Tac Compact .177 backyard multishot plinker

Thanks for the great info buck!!!! No wonder they put so much loctite on that screw hahahaa! Honestly my POI problem is self induced because I took out the PP and obviously didn’t tighten the scrub screws to secure the barrel well enough. I’m not a crank everything down super tight person ans I haven’t seen a torque number so I obviously went too low on torque, guess having a third scrub screw won’t hurt but probably will back it off to factory spec next time I decide to mess with it.

thanks again!

Increased the regulator pressure to about 125bars and it’s about perfect! With power wheel on MIN and TP on low the CPHP 7.9 grain pellet shoot right at 650 FPS and super quiet, mouse fart quiet! Virtually no sound from muzzle, just some mechanical noise which isn’t loud either. I can hear 177 pellet hitting paper from 34 yards away.

with power wheel on 5 and TP on Medium or High the 12.5 grain nsa slugs shoot at 760fps, more hammer spring only increase power by 7-8 feet and at power wheel at 4 the speed drops to 740fps so this is the barrel’s sweet spot. At this setting the gun is still very quiet and I would even call it backyard friendly but I wouldn’t shoot anything but my pellet boxes. Accuracy is excellent, easy 1/2 inch groups at 34 yards, will order more slugs and find time to stretch out to 100 yards or meters soon.

if the slugs work out as well as I think it would then this is one ridiculously flexible/versatile gun that can go from super low power back yard/close range gun to long range small game hunting gun with few clicks on 2 dials!

edit: it looks like I created a different problem for myself now. Looking at ballistic information for 100 meters or 111 yards I need 5.9 mils or 20MOA.......it’s going to be hard to find a scope that can dial or have proper reticle for 5.9mils/20 MOA under 20 oz and under $1000 dollars. 🤬 Probably end up putting my Helix on when I shoot pass 50 yards, won’t be holding it anyways.

Still frustrated with the shifting POI with the crosman pellets, in a full mag it would have 3 clusters of impact sometimes more. To check my sanity shot a whole mag of hades into the same dime sized hole at 34 yards leaning against the wall so the gun is fine but not consistent with CPHP. I was hoping the newer 177 liner will be like the .22 superior liner I have which shots CPHP like laser!

the really frustrating part is sometimes I can send half a mag through the same hole then it would look like shotgun the second half mag and then fine again . Any time i put in the Hades then it’s fine Guess the FX .177 isn’t as tight relatively speaking compared to the .22 superior liner.

anyone else had good luck with crosman pellets in FX 177 barrel?

Congrats on your purchase and thanks for all the info.

My Dream-Tac Compact .22 will be arriving tomorrow from Utah Airguns. I was hoping for the 20 MOA rail and PP, let's see what arrives tomorrow. I own a Wildcat MKIII, so this purchase feels redundant but the Dream-tac should be a better "Truck Gun"

I wish I can use it as a truck gun! Hahaha congrats, love this little platform. The .22 is far more versatile and best caliber but too much for my yard. If you use the belita or airgun universe moderator with a relatively light scope you can have the whole thing under 7lbs. Got mine down to 6lb and 14oz! Super fun, think I shot 1000 pellets in less than 2 weeks.

I'm going to put on the Vector Optics Veyron FFP scope with a Magpul stock.

I will report back with the weight. Thanks

I just purchased a dream-tact. 22. Are there any known issues I she lookout for? Any recommendations on preventative maintenance?

Phil

Known issues are you need to buy a lot of pellets, a compressor and a tank because you will need a lot of air, extra money for the extra accessories and barrels you will end up buying.

For PM I would say store it under 200 bars of pressure so the Orings will have a little stress. Tiny bit of Silicon grease for all the orings you can see once a while and don’t leave the hammer cocked when stored but that’s about it. No Different than any other PCP. Don’t use petroleum based oil and grease because some of the orings don’t seem to jive with them.

So I think I finally found out my wondering POI/inaccuracy problem.

1. CPHP pellets simply aren’t happy in FX .177 barrel, the 7.4 pointed pellets seems to be working well enough but still flyers here and there but way better than the CPHP. The pointed pellets shot well out of all of my guns but CPHP only shoot well out of some of my guns so I’ll be standardizing on the pointed pellets and sell off my CPHP stock.

2. I normally shoot thumb up and the HS power wheel is right by my thumb so I’ve been having my thumb on it. I didn’t notice this before but having my thumb on it changes the POI sometime, after noticing it i shot 3-4 mags with my thumb off of the wheel and it’s night and day more consistent so ill never put my thumb on the wheel again!

With the 7.4 grain pointed pellets and thumb off of the HS wheel I shot 4-5 mags and over all pretty happy with the results, still some flyers but with the wind and such light pellets it’s hard to say but overall very good accuracy even at 34 yards at low speed of 650FPS. Hades are still noticeably more consistent but they are also much heavier and 2.5x more expensive.

Since it’s super windy and bored today I figured I would test how the NSA 12.5 grain slugs shooting @760fps would do. It’s really windy today, 15-27mph swirling wind what feels even stronger depends on where in the yard. in less or almost no wind condition they shoot close to 1 hole at 24 yards.

Average group size is .75 or 3/4 of an inch, some are smaller but pretty low vertical spread which is good. When the wind is consistent the holes are touching or just one hole. Overall really happy and impressed. Keep in mind i intentionally left zero off center and center 1/2 inch dot is my POA. Sweet spot is 760fps at HS setting 4, HS 3 is just as accurate with slightly lower POI. HS#5 isn’t good because the group spreads significantly with and without wind. I got 2 full mags at that power from 220 bar fill with air left so should get 3 mags @230 bar fill(my tank is low) in the little 170cc air tube without the PP.

Fun experience today and super happy with the results.

edit: shot more after the wind died down to below 5 and setting 3 @725fps is the clear winner with half inch hole at 34 yards. Although I’m curious to see if I can get the medium hammer so I can bump the regulator a bit higher to get it closer to 800FPS.🤔
