My NEW GMI SWAG PRESS

@Engg.Ken What diameter is that Ram? It looks massive! Looks like a very well built press for sure. I don't know how the would shoot without the hollow point but is it possible to have it press a blunt or round nose slug? I just always associate hollow point with hunting and non hollow point with better BC and target shooting.
Hi the ram is is 30mm

@jwrabbit123 I’m still confused about what a “tapered base” is on these slugs. Does the base taper down to a narrower diameter (like a boattail without a step)?

Hi here is a close up of tapered base , it looks like a mini skirt on a pellet , Maybe GMI can go more in depth about its design , to me it looks like a mini skirt , this design was used by griffin slug I shot a few years ago, II only have shot griffin slugs with it , only downside was when they packed and shipped them alot would get damaged in shipping , I got one to try it out , here is close up

Good question @csdilligaf , Actually I have a working prototype of the exact same design you have suggested. I think I will get it to market by end of Feb or March 2025, there are more moving parts and contact areas in the die so I am trying to simplify things. But yes, High BC design is in the works.

HI Here is my first time shooting slugs , I popped on a used 600mm barrel on my Mk2 impact and took off my 500mm barrel which I use for hunting ,and put on a used 600mm barrel I got from a member here , I adjusted speed to 925 fps
ok here , I also shot some JSB knockouts along with the GMI 25,5 grain slugs that I amde yesterday to compare a few groups ,
I shot 3 different ranges I first shot 54 yards , then 109 yards , then 180 yards ,
The conditions were cold 19 degrees wind was 15mph with a few gusts ans snow
I also want to say I was standing not seated or laying down , I also used my tripod from 2VETS

I coulg not shoot today , but to answer your question these slugs mushroom quite well , I did shoot into some ballistic gel and they and comparing them to knockout slugs the wound channel is much much larger , at the depth I made them , remember the hollow point on these is fullt adjustable so you can make a slug to dump energy on impact of if say you hunting larger game such as a coyote or a large wild boar you need penetration so you just make the hollow point shallower , you know me I like my slugs to penetrate on them coyotes and on say gray squirrels I also ranter pass threw then damage the meat but ithe slugs can be tailored to anu dame or even target shooters ,
I have no data today with accuracy look at this
.GALE WARNING IN EFFECT THROUGH WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON

THIS AFTERNOON

NW winds around 35 kt with gusts up to 53 kt.
took a few shots slugs today wind pushing the ,22 cals over 14 inches at 100 yards not a good day and this was pulling trigger between gusts

Looks like I'm saving my pennies for a press!

Thanks for the targets, lovely target too!

Hi here i s my GMI press I decided to buy a bench grinder stand and cut 4 pieces of 2x10 and mount the wood to top and bottom as a swaging table , and move into the house , It has been very cold outside like in the teens , I do have heat in my shop but I decided to go in house and use it , the swag table I made works perfect and here it is and also I had my wife take a clip to show you guys how it operates , I am currently making some 25.4 slugs and playing around now with different hollowpoint depths and will test them into ballistic gel , with winter here great time to make slugs and collect data weather permitting , LOU

Hi I am lightly lubing meaning if I had say a tin to swag I lube with 5 drops of oil , I am using very light oil , to be honest I have tried many lubes like corbin swag slug , engine oil 10w , but I even tried what GMI said was WD-40 , but with my all of my testing I settled using Dextron6 automatic transmission fluid ,
I have hundreds of lubes and cleaners in my shops ,
Now I have found alot of things to be helpful such as , what I do is wash the roll of wire in my parts washer , then I put it on v blocks and unwind spool , I then grab a shop towel and soak it in acetone and then wipe as I wind back up on spool , alot of black gunk comes out of it ,
then I cut to weights then lightly lube and out in tins to be swagged ,

Now here is my post swaging I then use very hot water l with dawn and wash swagged ammo , then I dry with , either with shop air ect then I also use lube on my clean finished slugs I had bought some pellet lube called NAP again a few drops per tin , LOU ,
I just got done shooting some groups with styer pro check out my other accuracy page for slugs ,
