My "new" HW97k - Holy cow!

Picked up a 22 cal HW97k on the classifieds. I was impressed with the fit and finish right away. The seller indicated that they installed a p3 ho kit and added some baffles to the mod / muzzle break. Well, finally put a few shots through it. That's when my jaw hit the floor! Now my only previous experience with spring / gas piston guns was a "bear river" 177 of my friends and a Benjamin trail 22. Both of those have a rather robust kick upon firing. trigger pull was anywhere from 2.5-3.5 Lbs and frankly, no fun to shoot. I was also only able to achieve minimal accuracy. Now comes this platform, no ping, spring twang is very muffled. trigger pull 5-6 oz, yes! I double checked my lyman gage. the DB output? A dull thuded 99db. Outside of cocking the underlever for each round and a very manageable recoil on firing, I'd think I was shooting a PCP. I originally bought this for my friend, but , I may just have to keep this jewel. Going to shoot groups in a bit and see how bad I am. Never thought I'd be looking at a breaker more than in passing. Wonderful piece of machinery. The current stats:
Trigger pull - 5-6oz
Loudness - Dull 99db, no twang
Energy - 15-16FPE
14.3g - 690 FPS
14.6 - 707 FPS
15.9 - 664 FPS
18g - 635 FPS

After reading this I got excited about shooting my 97. I shot it in my ten yard basement test range and it shot five shot single pellet sized round hole groups. I measured the trigger it was 9.6 Oz. I kept lowering until I lost the first stage at about 5 Oz. Six ounces is about the lowest safe limit with this unmodified unit. This particular trigger falls into a hole when it gets to the second stage wall. There's either divots on the lower beam or the trigger blade rocker points are miss set. Probably the latter as this is a low mileage trigger. Either way it doesn't bother me enough to pull apart a gun that I can shoot half inch groups at 50 yds.

These guns are quite impressive. IMO too damn heavy for anything but bench shooting but incredible just the same. Thanks for reinvigorating my interest in them. I'm so happy that you're enjoying yours.

Another thing is you can shoot it 1 time or 500 with just a cock , load , shoot ,repeat.. no jand pumping when its 98' and 90% humidity for a hand full of shots. No 300$ compressor that could work fine or last or another add to cart . Or dont need to " top it off " just to shot one time or its first time. ..

That compressor deal price buys me a lot of cphp at walmart then im back to just cock, load ,shoot, repeat all day long.

That pcp overhead just never adds up to me..... Never vs a quality springer. Only real overhead you got is pellets. Lol

while very valid points, I am a PCP guy. Love ripping off 200 rounds in a 3 hour set or so, 200 rounds from a springer in 3 hours would make me a bad dude. I'm not a bad dude LOL! My arm was aching after 60 shots, damn, I'm outta shape!

I had a half dozen or so PCP’s. American, British, Korean and Chinese. All but one went in for repair/rebuilding for bad o- rings or gauges. I tried to fix them myself but couldn’t seem to hold my mouth just right enough to keep them from leaking. Only about 5 years old. Sold them all. Springers or bust!

Ya, been there. Took off 2 years on a job and was in good shape but i boight a gamo whisper fusion mach 1 .22 . So after the 2ed or 3ed day my cocking arm hurt and cramped up i guess muscles not well used ..lol.. ya i had to put it down a day or 2 to recover.. after that and now i can cock it all day long..

Never had that with another springer. That gamo somrhing just worked a muscle just right in cocking it.. bit that support cost of pcp for me just the joykill .. heck even if the springrr spits her bits its just $80 to rebuild to like new ( sometimes better then new). Then it just another $7 tin of pellets to keep it going.
