My new squirell gun, I think I've really gone to the dark side... Pt 2

I had the opportunity to shoot several of the finest air rifles made today along with girlfriend, we took a ride up to Sparta WI, and visited Jeff at Trenier Outdoors, I was there to pick up a new piece of kit... My new "squirrel gun"... 600mm FX impact MK2... I see what everyone likes about this rifle now, I've never been able to see one before up close and personal, I had to have one... I like it very much so far, need to select a nice optic for it and I have a lot to learn now that I've gone completely over to the "Dark Side"...

Yes. I think you dove off the cliff into the darkness but like he said we have cookies. ;^) Not much that we can can do for to help you now except feed you the crumbs we have left and help you in the spending more money category. You need a slug liner, trigger guard extension, bipod and various other gizmos and accessories to make the gun yours. Then if you still have money after that I can be your friend. ;^) Congrats and welcome to the dark side may it be all you imagined it to be. Great gun by the way.

It certainly is an addictive hobby, hey, we only live once, might as well enjoy it... Handling one and shooting one will make your decision if you've never seen one... I'll be looking into an optic for my new FX in the next day or so, looks like I need to go way past 12x to compete in any 100 yard/meter shooting... Hopefully meet some of you at a match or show... And thanks for dragging me into this with you...!!! Really...

What do you have in mind for an optic ? Do you prefer first or second focal plane . Fixed or adjustable power ? If you plan on shooting 100 yards plus I recommend 24x or more . The myself prefer FFP as I’m too lazy to make range cards . My last scope is a Discovery HD 4-20x50 mil/mil FFP . And I’m very impressed with the glass and the turrets match the reticle even after a box test . Great value for the money .

Nice rifle by the way , as mentioned you might want to look into the slug barrel liner . It is an absolute tack driver with the .22 redesigned monsters .

I only recently purchased my first FFP scope, I'm still getting used to it... I just know I need at least 20X-25X for the shooting the FX is capable of... None of my current optics are a good match for the Impact Mk2... I'm trying to figure out some guts for the empty can on the muzzle... See about using the stock can to make an effective LDC... The Impact is very quiet out of the box... I am going to read the owners manual a couple times, and do a bunch more reading here before I do anything to this one...

More to come... Ken

Darkside? Of what, firearms? Usually the darkside refers to an offshoot of the topic of the forum. In motorcycle forums, the darkside refers to people running car tires on the rears of their motorcycles for extra mileage. I would say the darkside of our topic right now would be shooting slugs instead of pellets. They are making progress by leaps and bounds. Now that you’ve started down the rabbit hole, the darkness will fill your wallet. It’s initially expensive. But the good news is that a lot of shooters are making great strides with slugs with the rifle you just purchased! So after you get comfy, you can really dive into the darkside!

So, I got my new Hawke Airmax 6-24X50 SF AMX IR Scope and my new FX No-Limit Rings, I took the time to mount my scope today and zeroed the elevation for 30 yards for now, I used a standard feeler gauge to measure, I ended up using a .032" feeler gauge under the rear corner of the mount while loosened, I figure this way I can reset it pretty close if I need to remove it for any reason... I wish the rings were just a little bit lower, mostly for a more natural cheek weld and to bring the scope center closer to the barrel... Might be able to see the angle and gap on the No-Limit rings in the second photo...

Ok, the "No limit" rings just don't work for me... Too high, my cheek weld is not natural, and hard to get a good sight picture with those rings on my Impact X Mk2... I decided to try a couple other pairs of rings I had here, finally using medium height "Vector" rings... It all fits natural now, cheek on the rest and I have good eye relief, sight picture and alignment... Need to dial it in a little better at distance on a bench... I think it looks great with this Hawke AIrMax 6-24X50 SF Compact scope on it... I like the AMX reticle a lot...
