My new squirell gun, I think I've really gone to the dark side... Pt 2

Lol Hyperdave

Ken I too had to use shorter rings and remove the no limits for a better sight picture . It looks great 👍! I will try to make my own cheek piece at a much later date but for now I am very pleased lol.

I was thinking about messaging Edosan, find out about his custom engraved cheek rest and having one made... Not sure if it was machined or 3D printed, it would be nice to get one made to spec with a different height etc... I don't want to add a lot of accessories to my Impact X, it's light, well balanced and handles well just the way it is... Perhaps a different butt plate/pad...

Ken

Ok, the Impact just didn't fit me, I'm 6'1", long arms and I just couldn't get a good hold or cheek weld on my Impact Mk2... So I decided the Crown is a better fit after having shot a couple of them...

So, here's my "New Squirrel Gun" Part 2...

I like it a lot, the adjustable comb and butt pad are great, it's sized right for me... I just picked it up this morning after a long drive, mounted my scope and did some 100 yard groups at Trenier Outdoors in Sparta, WI this morning, it was drizzling, windy, still managed two in the bull and it groups pretty good for just a lil tuning and quick and dirty scope mount... Pretty sure I won't make a fool out of myself in a competition now...

I've got some reading and tuning to do now... And I need to order up a .22 600mm barrel kit...

Good looking Crown..I can understand about the Impact and fit. I like my Impact but just doesn't fit like the Crown.

I liked the Impact, it would be great for walking in the woods and shouldering to shoot tree rats, I wanted a rifle capable of and good for 100 yard target shooting, and since I will be shooting from a bench, the FX Crown is a better fit all the way around… I'm about to layout some lines to drill a couple holes in this beautiful stock to mount a rail for a bipod (maybe)...

PS: Do you know if you can and how to remove the long shroud to clean the barrel...???

Anyone... Anyone... Bueller...???

Ken

I don't remove my liner anymore to clean it ( Sorry if you are aware of this already ). After I found out how important indexing the barrel is I leave it in and us a pull patch thingy called a patch worm lol (I think! ) But accuracy was a massive increase at long ranges after I marked and indexed the liner haha. It stays put now.

Again if you were aware of this already I apologize 😉. It helped me a lot.

Ken, its so easy to remove the liner that I just take it off to clean the barrel. Just unscrew the shroud and pull it off. Then remove the air stripper looking piece at the end by unscrewing it, and unscrew the retainer for the liner. Pull out the liner. Rinse and repeat... While you're at it, mark the top of the liner and every 90 degrees. Then shoot some groups with it in each position, and see which is closest to 0 degrees on the target (50 yards if good). If you are between two spots, rotate 45 degrees to that spot and shoot again. This will have your barrel indexed for maximum accuracy. Make sure you mark the liner when you get it just right... Yes, it takes a little time to remove and reassemble it for each group, but you only have to do it one - with that liner...

Mike, thank you for all of that info, I will follow those instructions to clean and index the barrel, I need to become familiar with this system, I might as well jump in both feet... I can't believe I'm actually going to measure, weigh and sort a couple tins of pellets for my Crown, I want to see what it's capable of... First thing, clean and index this barrel and zero this scope properly for 100 yard shooting...

I do appreciate all the help I get on AGN... Ken
