My Notos Nightmare

Hi everyone.

So I decided to put a Moderator adapter on my Notos. Sounds eas, the video made it look easy, wasn’t easy. Sure screwing on the adapter was easy, but that shroud removal was just a horror. I finally got it done after doing a variety of sketchy things. I almost used heat, but refrained for fear of warping the barrel. Does anyone have a trick they know on how to do it with less hassle?

Well I got the shroud off without messing up the barrel. I used a Dremel, and maybe a little heat. The end result was pretty coo, but like someone else mentioned the 3D over the shroud extension is very quiet. I’m adding the plenum extension and a buckrail tactical kit. I think I will have a nice little backpack setup. I know there is a way to turn up the regulator a bit for a little more fps/fpe, not a lo, but just a bit more to take advantage of the increased plenum size? Good idea or bad ide? I know this is a $300 gun, and I’m putting more money into it than I paid for it. But to be hones, I found a guy selling them for $225 a piece NIB and I bought three of them. I dressed one up and sold it on StealBay, and recouped my whole investment. any suggestions on how To proceed. by the way, I have a Stoeger XM1 and a Benjamin Maximus if anyone wants them for a project gun. You can have them for free if you pay the shipping. I’m not really why I bought them.

Only took me about 30 minutes to get mine off. I measured back 5 1/2 inches from the end of the moderator. I used a angle grinder with flap disc and got it down quick to within a quarter inch if the barrel. I then went around it with a hack saw and when I figured it was close I clamped vise grips on the end and it snapped off. A little more hack sawing and snapping pieces off with vise grips it was all off.

Yupper, I've cut off over 100 of them on my lathe, its messy and you have to take your time but having the measurements written down helps a lot in keeping away from the C-clips.

I try to crown and thread them at the same time it in the chuck. I dont recommend anybody try it without using a lathe, I've replaced a few bent barrels.

I just bought three more to play with. I’m going to have to try the angle grinder method. I saw a video of someone using a lathe and they turned the factory shro into a nice little moderator. Pretty smart fellow. wish I had a lathe and the knowledge to do it that way.

I do that for my clients. I cut the moderator housing off at 5.5" from the front and that gives me enough meat to use an insert for the barrel threading I do after I recrown the barrel.

I do not recommend using an angle grinder.
