My perspective on 3 Semi-Auto Airguns - Huben K1, Leshiy 2 and Steyr Pro X

ChRiSiS

We need you to buy an LCS SK19 and add it to your excellent review😁

My LCS SK19 .22 was a major disappointment. Back and forth to AOA and then the final trip back to AOA for a total complete refund. I would never own one again.

I have the Blitz in .25 and it's a total beast. Love it.

The Huben might be on my radar to buy.

I knew that Leshiy was going to be a disaster. Will be staying far away from it.

.

I haven't owned an LCS but the different times I've shot them I too was not impressed. The Steyr ProX I can't help but be impressed, not that it doesn't have what I consider faults.

Oh, and I had a FX Revolution that could not be fixed so I had to return it as well but it had been a year of disappointment by the time I told Robert enough was enough. Though I didn't get a full refund.

Good reviews Chris, thanks.

How do you clean the barrel on the K1? Cleaning rod from the end of the barrel seems like the only reasonable way. I don't have a FX yet so a Crowne is probably next but the K1 is really interesting.

I read somewhere (may be even on this board) that there's a serious safety concern with this approach. Something about the rod becoming a fast-moving projectile if pushed a wrong way on the non-empty bottle AFAIR.

Great write up. Was wondering if any of the Steyr hunting 5 crowd might chime in. So I will. Plus this might help you with the pro-x. The Steyr’s trigger spring is way too heavy. M Mahoney sent me a drop in spring that transformed my trigger to match grade. I have the hunter 5 .22 in the regular configuration ie not scout version and I hunt ground squirrels regularly with it. It’s got enough power for 150 yards or so. I have two barrels for it, one with a screw end for a suppressor. With it it’s super quiet. And being that it’s not a bullpup, the action is not near my ear so it’s a pleasure to shoot.

I might have to look into that. I am also interested in a Steyr Hunting 5 but have never been able to figure out where to get one. Pilkington’ s doesn’t even show it on the web site.

I talked to Kelly about this. I took his recommendation and put a piece of tape on my cleaning rod to mark it and prevent it from going too deep. Going through the barrel (and magazine) and you can hit the valve head behind the mag and cause it to discharge. I never clean past the magazine, never worry about it.

this is what i did with mine. i actually wrapped a thick layer of tape at the stop,to prevent it from going further than the mag

You can buy them at: https://www.mundilar.net/en/pcp-air-rifles-steyr-sport/

They are easy to work with. Make sure to request a "tax free" quote if in the US. Thy wont do it otherwise. Also, tell them you want the full power version.

I just ordered an H5 Auto Scout from them along with a few extra mags and a picatinny top. Once they got my payment they placed the order with Steyr. It took about two weeks for them to get the order from Steyr and then about 4 business days to get to me here in the states. They do not drop ship it.

Hope that helps.

You owners of the Huben should look into this little invention of mine, to guarantee a precise setting on the barrel when reassembled. Makes pulling the barrel off for cleaning worry free, and you’ll have the barrel reinstalled back in as the factory had set it-

both pics are of LCS’s-

BigRagu, Great minds think alike 😎. I am using a similar setup on my Leshiy 2 to “tension” my 600mm FX barrel in place with a CF shroud by screwing on the Huma Mod40. Never thought of using it to help limit or index the barrel on a Huben though…

Thanks for the great review. I have owned several semi autos from the FX Monson, Huben K-1, and the LCS. Here is my input

Personally I like the Huben K-1 way better. I have owned a LCS SK-19 and sold it.

LCS SK-19

Pros-

Accurate as hell.

Easy to load.

Cons-

Ergonomics sux! Must replace butt pad.

Can not sling it.

Trigger is horrible

Forget the full auto version just a gimmick

Power wheel turns to easy no detents.

Can not adjust Reg. past 150bar .

Huben K-1-

I have owned K-1's since 2018. I currently own 2. One setup for lighter pellets 14.3 Crossman- 18gr JSB. Pest gun.

The other is setup for slugs 27.5gr Nelson, Squirrel Hunter.

Upon purchasing the Huben I liked it so well that I purchased 11 more non work Hubens from J. Brancato. Which he was uneducated on them to repair. A good friend of mine Randy and I repair every one of them and sold them within 2 months. I have purchased several off the AGN classifies to sell to friends. I just purchased 2 more 2021 .25 L.E. & .22 from Kelly. Which were for a good friend and my Dad. Anyways, I absolutely LOVE the K-1 for hunting. This particular rifle I have owned the longest of any other air rifle. Do not see a replacement in the future. Huben out!

K-1 Pros-

Ergonomics are Great! Upon shouldering the pup, feels like putting on a glove. Easy to shoot free hand. Pack very well through the woods. Pre drill sling holes synthetic only.

Trigger is sweet fully adjustable. I have the slug hunter adjusted to 1.5lb.

Quiet for the amount of ft/lbs it can produce. No need for a LDC.

High air capacity but I normally fill mine to 340bar. High shot count.

External Regulator which is adjustable from 110bar to 200bar.

Detent power wheel adjustment.

Very accurate hunting rifle. NOT a paper puncher.

Fixed magazine .25cal. 17 rounds .22 19 rounds. No need for extra magazine to loose.

L.E. Limited Edition- very nice wood stock. 1/2 lb. lighter vs. Synthetic because of stock and shroud.

Cons-

A little more difficult to load vs. the LCS.

Thanks guys for the comments. Happy to see the old thread is still relevant. One of these days I am going to get my hands on a LCS-19 for comparison purposes. I might also do a follow up on the changes i have done to my L2 since the original post. It was a 350mm barreled .25 caliber gun. Now its a 600mm FX Barreled .30 cal with a FX 480cc bottle, putting out 90+ FPE. And I’m still loving it.

Great write up Chris. I really like the Leshiy 2 but can’t convince myself to buy it when I compare it to my hubens. Cool little gun for sure but to get it as quiet and powerful as the huben you’ll easily spend another $500+. Then it will be longer than what you originally started with, defeating the purpose of why I like it; being a compact gun. Also, I’m not 100% sure but I read somewhere that the L2 has a plastic frame. On a $500 I don’t mind. But if I’m dropping $2000+, I want metal. I know composites can be just as strong but I just like the feel and thought of having a metal frame.

Thanks legionair.

My L2 is now definitely no longer a compact gun, that’s for sure. On the other hand, with the FX barrel it is actually now much more accurate than it was before. Whether that’s due to the FX barrel/liber system (which I have tensioned inside a carbon fiber outer shroud and the moderator), or to the 600mm barrel hitting some kind of sweet spot with speed and power in .30 cal I don’t know. What I can say is that ripping off 8 quick 90+ FPE headshots at a steel silhouette 50 yards away is really cool, and with a lot less noise than my Ruger 10/22s.

I don’t know for sure, but I suspect you may be right about the L2 frame being a composite. That may also be one of the reasons it’s so light.

I’ve got to get my hands on a LCS-19 one of these days, at least to compare it, before I am “forced” to buy a second Huben K1 (in .25).

Chris

That’s a sweet setup with the tensioned barrel.

I like my sk19 for a few reasons but not as much as my huben. The build quality isn’t as good. Having a screw come through the block doesn’t look right on a “high end” $2000 gun.

The trigger guard/ front pic rail is attached by ONE screw so it has side to side play. It has more o rings compared to the huben. Leaks are a common issue with the sk19, mine leaked. It is not as adjustable as the huben. They recommend no lower than 120-130 bar for the reg and no higher than 140 bar. Trigger is not as good as huben, creepy and long in semi auto mode.
On the other hand, it is slightly more accurate than my huben. I think that’s because the mag is sized exactly to the bore unlike the huben. (Although, I heard they fixed that with the 2021 hubens) Also the tensioned barrel might play a role in the slight edge. The mag can accept longer slugs. Trigger gets better in full auto mode.
It’s definitely worth trying. Very fun playing with 2 and 3 round bursts in full auto mode.

@ChRiSiS Thanks for the thorough review. I was recently looking at the Steyr and found this review extremely helpful. Lots of good comments from others as well. If you get your hands on a Rattler, please review that as well.
Thanks. I’m certainly interested in the Rattler (as well as the Sidewinder for the removable mag). I’ll certainly write something up if (more likely when) I get one.
