My Red Wolf and why I choose it

"Macros"Dug deep and made it to the battery and screen? What about all the bits that matter -the trigger, processors, solenoid etc?
At least the battery is cheap and easy to replace/ get spares. It's been covered ad nauseum how it's not 'slick' but the bottom line is it powers the gun and does the job just fine. A Ferrari does not have a polished and jeweled fuel tank I assure you. Most electric cars run on batteries that are basically laptop tech.
What would the point of an oled screen be, other than to drain more battery? Wanting it to look bling or hoping to watch youtube on your rifle?
I'm afraid your points on the electronics don't gel for me, at all.
As for tuning, and the talk about daystate milking people for extras like the tuning computer, FX and others are no different.
$400 caliber change kits and providing a standard ST liner in the X system of the MK2 wildcat for no apparent reason comes to mind...
Also funny that the makers of the 'cheap and dated' electronic gun have three times the warranty of fx.
There are no saints in business I'm afraid - none of these companies are making guns to be our friends.
The red wolf and the impact/crown all have characteristics some won't like or be irritated by, but it doesn't change the fact that they're exceptional guns and posting to dismiss one as cheap and dated based on a couple of minor points is weak and yes, antagonistic.

I looked at the solenoid, capacitors, and control electronics too; those are just a somewhat tunable copy of Paintball e-Triggers sold for past 13 years. Tippman makes a comparable circuit for $90, and Heliboard makes a significantly better circuit for $250. Perhaps electronics are a generational gap thing, because someone who grew up with iPads would never consider calculator screens "Ferrari grade" irrespective of how much shiny resin Daystate pours on the gun.

There is also a fundamental difference between FX overcharging $400 for a caliber change versus Daystate overcharging $400 for something that FX provides for free: tuning ability.

So you believe the components are not what you would expect for this rifle. OK, we get it - you don't like the rifle. But I have to ask, did you even shoot it before claiming it was sub par and returning it?
My new .177 Red Wolf arrived late afternoon this past last Friday and it looks great. After putting over 1,000 rounds through it over the weekend, I can say with confidence it shoots even better than it looks, which is FANTASTIC!
For the original poster. Congrats on the new rifle!!!!!

Congratulations on the new rifle. You are clearly loving it!

For me it was more about value proposition rather than love at first sight. Daystate is charging $2399 base price, $400 for tuning computer, and $360 for warranty ($3159 total) for a product that competes with FX Crown Laminate priced at $1899. Crown is also a proven platform that won EBR 2017, while Daystate hasn’t won any of the EBR competitions in years.

So I returned it...

Lol. I love when people use the argument “XXX gun won EBR a couple times....”. My response to that... who cares. Anyone who knows anything about airguns and firearms in general knows the shooter has more to do with the winning aspect. Any airgun out there can be “tuned” to be an exceptionally accurate shooter.

I had the Crown for a couple months, thought it was the most overhyped and overpriced airgun I’d ever layed my hands on. I sold it for a loss. Back to Daystate I went and I am 100% happy. Bottom line is, no one cares if you personally don’t like one gun or another, the Crown satisfies a certain shooter and the Red Wolf satisfies another. Freedom of choice and the abundance of options is one of the things that makes this country great.

Back on track.

To the OP- Congrats on your new gun. I have no doubt the Wolf will exceed all of your hopes. The electronics used in the platform are right around a decade old and extremely reliable. What is inside that gun is “state of the art” in comparison to the rest of the mechanical guns out there. Shoot the piss out of it and post your joys and itty bitty groups here on the forum for us to be jealous of. ;)

Happy Memorial Day!!

Haha, and the hammer spring and regulator on a crown/impact are somewhat tunable versions of those found in every pcp ever. Still just a spring on guide and some Belleville springs and orings.

You can take idiotic perspectives on anything if you choose.

Exactly what is the 'fundamental difference' by the way? Overcharging is overcharging. Doesn't matter what you are paying too much for.

As for the 'generation gap' thing, how old exactly do you think I am? You don't need to be sixty to have the sense to know what bits of a gun are important. the first iPhone was released in 2007, so if you truly 'grew up' with them that would make you around 11-12? Might explain your need to rain on the OP's post in order to prop up your own choice of brand...
The screen does everything it's supposed to with absolutely minimum drain on the battery. Anything more would compromise the actual performance of the gun.

There are plenty of people that believe the marketing brainwashing that an FX gun exists on some other plane and somehow wins EBR while the shooter drinks tea - go join their threads ?

Now please excuse me while I go buy the tennis raquet Roger Federer uses so it can win Wimbledon for me in July...

Sounds awesome, I'm definitely getting one of these sometime this year, the electronics make it a unique airgun and I'm pretty interested in it. Though I would also be open to an Airwolf + Heliboard if the price on those drops enough.

Now.. I will say I wish they would get with the times a bit and offer bluetooth connectivity and programming via an app. But it's not a deal breaker and I'm sure they'll get there. As for the worries some have about reliability I haven't heard any real issues with these guns, especially not beyond what you have with any airgun. I've got mechanical airguns and this thing isn't sitting by my bedside as a self defense weapon that will get me killed if it fails or anything - it's an airgun. So I never really bought the allergy some people seem to have to "electronics" in their airguns.

I live about 20 minutes from AoA, does anyone know if they will program these for free or a nominal fee (definitely not spending the $400)?

Good post! But be careful with that 60 something stuff. You never now how many of us there are out there in internet land. :)
Back to the Daystate - In early May of 2017 I purchased a new Daystate, .177 Air Wolf MCT. Since that time I shot 39,000+ rounds through it and competed in numerous Field Target events. The latest FT event being May 20th of this year. I feel very comfortable in my knowledge of what the MCT is capable of. My first impressions after this past weekend of shooting over 1,000 rounds through my new Red Wolf, the Red Wolf takes it all to the next level.
Haha, don’t take my use of age 60 the wrong way - just using it as an example as one should have achieved some perspective/wisdom by then ? glad you’re enjoying your new Red Wolf!

I definitely did not take the age 60 thing the wrong way. Hence the smiley face after and again. :)

I AM NOT bragging, but rather attempting to show what the Air Wolf platform is capable of. The recent FT event I attended and which I noted in a previous post, was also attended by several past national FT champs and one worlds champ, shooting in various FT classes. Even though it was "only" a club shoot, the competition at this particular club can be quite intense. Here is a link to the results for the latest FT shoot there. https://ohioft.wixsite.com/noa-twinoaks/n-o-a-match-results Click on the match report for May 20, 2018. Notice what brand and model of rifle took the two top spots. I believe the Red Wolf will take my FT competition to a new level.

Brian - You are really going to like your new Red Wolf!!!!
