Mystery groups

Decent conditions for shooting groups today, so I headed to the club to test 3 guns. All guns are shooting 12 foot pounds, all are shooting Air Arms Fields. Everything was shot at 50 yards from a seated position off the knee. Two rifles are springers, one is a PCP.

Here are the groups, then I'll have more to say after.

The second group, ignore the two shots high and to the left, those were all me.

I'm not going to say which groups were the springers and which was the PCP. The point of the exercise was to see how much better the PCP is than the springers. It appears that my competition springer is just as accurate as my competition PCP shot under the same conditions. I'm sure the PCP is more accurate from a bench, but I'm not shooting from a bench. To be fair, the PCP shoots better with a clean barrel. However, it annoys me to have to clean the barrel every 100 shots to keep the accuracy from taking a dive.

The conclusion I've reached is that I should shoot the competition springer for field target this year. I've shot the PCP at two matches this year and had an average result and a below average result, so I don't think my scores will take a huge hit going to the springer.

One of the springers is really set up for Hunter, not WFTF. I was using a janky hamster and a 32x scope for the test. I know this gun has potential to be very accurate, so I'm going to try my hand at making an FT stock for it. Here is a group I shot off the bench with this rifle today just to show that it has potential. Ignore the powder burner holes, it's the 5 shots in the center. That's .67 CTC.

For fun, feel free to guess which group was the FT springer, the hunter springer or the FT PCP.

PCP 1
Hunter springer 2
Springer 3

That's what my wife said (it's so simple, I have no clue what she's talking about... I'm just posting what she tells me to post)

I'm guessing the springer is a HW 97
and
the Hunter springer is a RWS 48?
no clue what the PCP is

JP, your wife is wrong (you'll will need to explain to her what that means if she's anything like my wife, who has never been wrong since our wedding day).
You are correct about the HW97 being the competition springer.

I'll go ahead and give the answers because I think all of the wrong guesses have been accounted for.
Group 1 is the hunter springer - Walther LGV
Group 2 is the HW97
Group 3 is the PCP - AR20FT

The AR20 is capable of slightly tighter groups from the bench, so I think I've hit my accuracy limit shooting off the knee. If that's the case, I would rather shoot the HW97 because it has a fantastic stock and I don't have to mess with air fill ups or constant barrel cleaning.
Thanks for playing. Vanna, tell them what they've won!

LOL. Are you crazy?
No way I'm telling her that... I'm going to tell her...Honey you were right. You are always right.

What scope are you using with the 97?
