N50 at 100 “In The Rings” Slug Challenge

Hey Mike - I’ll bet it was annoying looking through your scope and seeing all those shots ( 50 ) going into those same two holes.😉

Only managed “one” 2500 score with the Annie 1907 with 40g RWS 50 bullets since you started the thread a few years ago. I wish I had a nickel for every time I had three or four ‘500’ bulls in a row only to mess up on the last or next to last bull.

I never will fully understand why more RF’s or “slug” air guns won’t give this a go at 100y, just for kicks. Especially in today’s world with .better .22 air rifles and RF’s and current technology. There are more and more forum members shooting targets at 100Y and much further, and it would be great to see their attempts at this. It’s hard and can be humbling with wind, so I get it.

Really nice shooting and consistency.

Thanks Tommy.

On the second group I had the first 9 shots all almost perfectly in the middle sitting on the 10 ring. I was holding about 2 rings low and decided I would adjust my elevation and then and take one more shot. The 10th shot was the highest of the group and it really spoiled the really nice first 9...so I just kept going to 25. 🙁

The game looks deceptively simple ...and I'm sure a lot more people have tried it and just not posted their results.

We get pretty heavy wind most of the time when it's warm outside. The only nice thing about winter here is the wind is pretty light by comparison.

I had to try this today. I was one of those people “who should have not posted my cards.” 😃

Biggest mistake I made today was before I left the house. Should have brought the Annie 1907 .22 LR vs. bringing the FX Boss .30, because it was breezy.

I shot some practice first, then proceeded to shoot for score. Although I had two flags deployed, I struggled reading wind shifts. Edit: Many of my holds were on the box line, and only a handful were inside the rings. I was guessing on some of the holds and when you do this, you know you are in trouble. The low scores reflect that.

My target backing was full of holes so the holes did tear. I can hear Lou now laughing, but I thought I had new cardboard backing on my target stand.

Anyway, it was good to practice again at 100 yards. The Boss is pretty solid at 50y and can be very good at 100y with the 44g JSB pellets. Very consistent ES ranges, which I’ll edit and attach later.

Tommy, you might see if the AEA 50gr will work for you. They are significantly better in the wind than the jsb 44gr. It's like the difference between shooting 18gr 22 cal pellets vs the 25.4s at 50y.

Mike

Thanks Mike.

I know the AEA pellets have a good rep. Also, was curious about the 51.1g

Going to order some 50g AEA tins, and try this again. I’m guessing I’ll have to turn up the HS a bit to make up for the loss in velocity. I’m at a very consistent regulated 880-890 FPS range right now with the 44g.

I’m going to try your suggestion in January.

Just ordered 4 tins from AEA. Thanks for the tip!

Hey Tim - Will you please get out that new .30 cal RAW and nail a 2500?. I know you have the AEA 50g pellets. I’ll even settle for a ‘2400’ so we can make him work harder.

I would do it, but I’m watching the PNC cup in my recliner.
Tom, as tempting as it is, I’m going to have to take a hard pass. It’s just too darn cold here and as my buddy says he thinks I’m more of a “fair weather shooter”?
