N50 at 100 “In The Rings” Slug Challenge

Hi Tommy
i am using a Skout Epoch with the Lothar Walther bullbarrel in .22
I am shooting the Altaros Kings @885-890 fps
i have a Delta Stryker 5-50 x 56 scope.
AR250 front rest by SEB(son) and an Edgewood bag…Thinking of getting a flat top bag
Mike

Wow!

I thought those were ‘slug’ made holes.

Mike - in your opinion does that bull barrel improve accuracy?

I don’t know jack about the Skouts. But, I am curious about the idea of installing LW bull barrels for other AG brands.

Tommy, the Altaros are slugs … 40g, i believe you have them confused with JSB Kings
imo, the LW barrel is superior to the OEM barrels made by Skout.
i do think the bull barrels are better..not certain if they have a better resonance, Rigidity, or a combination of both
LW barrels have decades of experience and I appreciate their quality, however, I am oblivious on how install .

Thanks for clarifying Mike.

Tommy, you might see if the AEA 50gr will work for you. They are significantly better in the wind than the jsb 44gr. It's like the difference between shooting 18gr 22 cal pellets vs the 25.4s at 50y.

Update on using new AEA 50.1g pellets with FX Boss .30 caliber

I did shoot (4) N50 50Y cards last Friday, but it was cold and windy. My velocity was a very consistent 830 FPS with a great ES with the new to me AEA 50.1g pellets. I managed a 229 and 230 on two of the four cards, but my wind holds and calls were inconsistent. I did manage 14 10’s on one card and 15 10’s on the other. Although the accuracy was good, I have the sense I need to turn up the HS and increase the velocity to assess if I can score better. Have shot a number of low to mid 240 N50 cards with the 44g , so I need to work the 50.1g with more practice.

I also shot some 1/2” MOA groups so when I get a warmer and less windy day, I will try a few “pellets in the rings” 100Y cards.

Finally was able to put my N50 at 100 in the rings

I had a good bonus shot at the end 🤣

I just watched your video.

I noticed your POA was on the X dot for all 25 shots, one flier on 3rd bull from bottom. Great shooting Jeff. Wind was very light in seeing your flags, so I understand holding on the X dot. Are the slugs 40g?

I am going to try and cherry pick a light wind day and get the .30 Boss out with the AEA 50.1g pellets. I would love to bust thru a “2000” score with pellets, but will need Divine Guidance.

Great job!

Tom

P.S. I also liked your 26th shot in box 16. Nice dead center X hole.

Was 5-12 wind for me on these. I held anywhere from box edge left to adjacent bull 6 ring right with corresponding vertical for jump.

2450, 2450, and 2500

Measured groups and added a little info to them. Was .543 Moa average for 15 groups.

That’s some good “wind reading” right there!

I can get my head around holding on the box line left for a crosswind windage hold. Although, for my lighter winds here, I seldom have to hold on any box lines left or right. Normally, I can use the rings in the same bull I’m aiming at for windage holds.

However, just thinking of holding on the adjacent bull’s six ring right blows my mind.

Raining all this week, so maybe next week or the week after. Want to try those 50.1g pellets with this challenge.

Thanks....spring is very volatile here as far as wind goes. My property is completely open and surrounded by nothing but more completely open land. Soon... Winds will be topping out in the 20-60mph range almost daily until all the snow melts off the mountains. It will then be 90 plus every day til September....but very low humidity.

Our property is not very pretty...mostly adobe dirt....but beyond is nice.

Here's some 30 cal 50gr AEA 25 shot groups. I didn't score them but they are pretty good. Holding up to a full box left and right and pretty low at times.

Nice 10 shot too.

Very nice!

I have no excuses now after seeing these 100Y groups with a .30 cal and the AEA 50.1g pellets. Wow, the BC must be pretty good. I didn’t even suspect you had a .30 air rifle.

Might be a couple weeks before I get back out and try these same pellets with the FX Boss at 100Y, but I will post results.

Mike what gun manufacturer and velocity were you slinging these 50g at?

My rifle is a Thomas. I shot about 885. Although the BC is higher than other pellets...they are still pellets.
