N50 cards with "Annie"

Sounds good Tom, I’ll keep you posted. I picked up some different lots of CenterX that I’m looking forward to trying in a couple of different kinds. I’ll keep that 10X in mind for the Annie. I hope that you get to shoot N50, it’s so much fun and you can use a variety of different rifles. I also use a 40X in some of our Marches in Oxnard.
Hi Ed

Yes, I do have a Kelby stock and shoot N50 ‘practice’ cards regularly with both Anschutz rifles and other air rifles. I don’t shoot in any local N50 matches, but might someday if I can find some local interest. Most of my fellow .22 RF owners shoot steel at Durham matches, but not N50. It’s ok, because I enjoy seeing the various match results around the country via AGN posts.

I bought the Randolph front mechanical rest used, and the thing is heavy. The stock has a nice flat for-end which is perfect for this rest.

Keep in touch and let me know what you choose for a one piece rest. Also, you can get both RWS 50 and RWS 100 ammo from Anschutz North America; and if you agree to do some lot testing, they used to discount the expensive ammo. The 1907 also shoots the Eley Tenex pretty well.

I have not been able to find CenterX in stock anywhere in the country for about two years. Everyone that does have it has bought bricks or cases of it, and that’s their supply.

I do have an idea for N50 at my local range. We only have three shooting benches for the 50 yard BERM, but I know a few .22RF target and steel shooters that I can ask. Both shoot steel competitively at 50, 100 and 150 yards at another range. Only one other guy has an air gun ( RAW HM1000x .22 HP) and he is sending that back to Martin to try and get his issue fixed based on my suggestion. But, he is one of the RF shooters I can ask for N50 participation.

Next time I see them, I’m going to ask if they are interested. Unfortunately, I would be one of the three competing N50 shooters and would have to score the 9 match cards, which is against the rules.

Tim - will watch over my scoring.😀😀😀

God help us all!

Tom,
It was all sold out and then I got lucky and was contacted that a little bit came in so I jumped on that. I suspect somebody backed out of their order, but what do I know?. Hopefully the supply of Lapua will get better next year. There are monthly matches here in Oxnard at Open Grove. As a matter fact, there’s an N50 match on Sunday. Hopefully someday you’ll be able to check it out. What part of the state are you in?

Ed - pretty sure I will never shoot at your range. Not because I would not want too; but only because it’s not an option for me.

No worries, but driving or flying to CA is just not an option.

Enjoy your match on Sunday.

This reminds me of a time in the 90's when I was active in BR-50. The hot ammo at that time was Lapua Master, assuming you got a good lot. A guy in GA who had money and did some custom rifle work bought the US Lapua distributor's entire inventory of Master ammo! Some lots were as good as any ammo made, at any price, and other lots were only average. I remember wishing that he got a truckload of crappy ammo. Shortly after that episode, I sold a couple of Calfee rifles and got out of rimfire BR, as the cost and time of testing ammo was simply prohibitive. CF benchrest, where the ammo is within the shooter's control, since it is handloaded, is probably still the best precision shooting game out there, if you can devote the time to it. Otherwise, it's hard to beat just opening a tin of pellets and shooting.

For some reason, I thought you were in Northern California. You’re fortunate where you live, lots of shooters and lots of opportunities for good guns, and ammunition.

I love this anecdote and Great, point about opening a tin of pellets. I shoot with a bunch of guys who enjoy air rifles, and actually, I know very little about air rifles. I do know that if I were going to purchase one, it would be a Thomas. Some of the things that I’ve seen with guns is just amazing. That’s the fun with N50, the pellet guys can compete with the rimfire guys! I’ve just been doing this for a year and I will say it is a blast. I moved from collecting guns to shooting them, and shooting them as a heck of a lot more fun!
