N50 cards with new JTS Dead Center 25.39 pellets

I ordered some tins (10) of JTS Dead Center 25.39 "shallow cavity" pellets from New England Air Guns.

I went out today to shoot both groups and a couple of N50 cards. I am happier with these vs. the old "Deep Cavity" JSB 25.39 MRDs. Much happier!

I shot the RAW HM1000X .22 HP which actually does shoot the older MRDs very well at 50 yards, but I am going to try these at 100 yards next chance I get with the RAW.

Group Shooting at 50 Yards - Shot eight 5-shot groups primarily with about .527" CTC average ( see attached ). I think if I got a no wind day, these would be much tighter, but can't complain about MOA at 50Y.

N50 Cards - Shot a 228 and a 240 card. First card, I had some difficulty with either my technique/wind, and the score reflected that. The 240 card was close to being a very good card, but we know how that goes!

RAW owners - If you have not tried the JTS Dead Center 25.39 pellets, give them a shot. I feel like the MRD is being reborn.

Hi TommyB, what velocity are you shooting these pellets? I just shot a few groups of JTS .22 cal 25.39gr at 100 yards in my RAW HM1000X at 940fps on an indoor range with no wind, and the groups sizes were not good. In contrast, I can shoot 10-shot groups of JSB MRD or FX or Rangemaster King .22 cal 25.39gr at 100yards and get .930" average CTC groups (under 1 MOA).

Nice shooting Tommy. I have an AZ built HM1000, it is tuned for 18 grainers, apparently Alan does not care for the 25 grainers. The rifle is just so so as far as accuracy, yet much better than the factory setup. Have tried these pellets and they were okay nothing special out of the rifle.

Do plan on testing them in other rifles. It is nice to have other options.

Joe - Understand AZ tuned your RAW for 18.1 g. But….have you tried the new JTS Dead Center 25.39’s at 935-940 FPS? You can always ask AZ to reevaluate these new JTS25.39 pellets. Nothing to loose, esp if you are just so so with the 18’s.

Martin set up my RAW .22 HP for 930 FPS with the old, deep cavity MRDs.

Have not chrono’d the new JTS 25. 39, but my MRDs were at 940-945 FPS. Too many flyers for me at 100y. AoA is out of stock on the Rangemasters until Christmas.

I will Chrony next outing and report back.

Tommy, yes have tried the 25, 16, and 18 grainers. The rifle has since been sold.

Hi Tom. I tried them in my RTI Prophet LR and the first thing I noticed is the alloy felt a tad bit harder when chambering a pellet as compared to the JSB/FX MRDs. I shot them all at 970. My old shallow base MRDs shot best. The JTS were about on par with the deep base FX/JSBs. Congrats on the targets posted. Looks like your RAW is doing really well with them.

Hey Tim

I noticed the same phenomenon when chambering a pellet using the RAW SST. I definitely have a noticeable harder load with my side lever using the JTS vs. the old deep cavity MRDs. When I initially tried the first few shots, I was wondering if my SST was aligned properly with the barrel insert at the breech. Others have mentioned this also.

I would love to see some 75/100 yard groups with the Daystate Rangemaster 25.39 vs. JTS 25.39 vs. JSB deep cavity 25.39’s just for comparison.

In any case, at least now there are other options than the older JSB MRDs.

Hi Tom,
I applaud other companies stepping up and challenging the only major player in the pellet supply market. We have asked JSB to bring the old shallow base pellets back and they turn a deaf ear to our requests but at least someone else is listening. It will also be interesting to see if Zan responds as well. Their 30 cal pellets are awesome so it appears they have the expertise to produce some high quality pellets too. Times are a changin' so it may be some good times ahead, at least I hope so.

Went to the 100 yard outdoor range today. Humbling.....:(

I shot the JTS Dead Center shallow cavity pellets for "groups" only, not score. I used the EBR 100 yard target bulls, but my POA was always the X dot. Not good. Wind was up a bit, 2-4 mph but I shot a representative number of 5-shot groups at 100 yards and the groups were lousy.

I pretty much got a flier in each of the 5-shot groups. Cleaned the RAW barrel after shooting several groups, but to no avail. I also did a Chrono run at the end of my session, and it was excellent. I was quite surprised that my current RAW tune of 935-940 FPS on the JSB 25.39 deep cavity pellets was different using the JTS Dead Center Pellets. Almost a 20-25 point swing and definitely hotter.

So far, the JTS is shooting very solid at 50 yards for me, but the 'jury is still out' on 100 yard testing. I will try and get a no wind day at some point, and try this again at 100 yards. When the Daystate Rangemaster equivalent 25.39's are back in stock, I will try those as well. NOTE to self: I also want to try and adjust the RAW HST lower to around 935-940 FPS and see if that helps or not.

LOL, those look like my cards. I really stink at 100. Oops, not saying that you do Tom, but I find 100 very difficult and disappointing. I had planned a range trip today but it’s been raining non stop here so I will try tomorrow. I have been practicing 100Y for PAC. I am on the fence between 22 and 30. I am terrible with both but at least I can see the 30 holes most of the time but 22 holes are a challenge to see (for me). I’m using a 36x Sightron on both which is a good scope, especially at 50y but tough to see tiny holes at 100. It’s likely not the scope’s fault. I just have some vision issues.

Tim - 100 yards with pellets is almost always humbling for many of us; not just us the two of us, if we were all to be honest! Frankly, I was disappointed with the new JTS Dead Center .22 cal 25.39s at 100 yards today. In fact, I can vividly recall shooting similar groups with the deep cavity older MRDs, which had better CTC averages and tighter groups in the past. The issue was always the unexpected fliers that could not be explained. This was also true for me today with the JTS pellets.

962 FPS might be a bit hot in the “Martin tuned RAW at 935 FPS” for the old MRDs. Not sure, but at least I know the JTS and MRDs shoot pretty solid at 50Y and under.

My vote - Try a .25 cal shooting JSB 33g Heavies or a .30 cal shooting the 44g JSBs for PAC. Just observe as to why CC ( Centercut) converted and others from .22 HP to larger calibers for EBR, RMAC, et al.

I know Tom… I’m just a slow learner ;)

Shooting 100 is a new challenge for me since most of my shooting has been at 50Y or less. It will be interesting to attend and participate in the PAC for the first time and just soak in the experience. Hope to get some pics to post after it’s over. Truth be told, I had my heart set on shooting the N50 Nationals but some obstacles got in my way for that trip.

You will love the experience Tim! I would love to attend these events also!

This is about what I saw at 100 yds. As i said, JSB, FX, and RangeMaster were WAY tighter groups and under 1”
