In the past, I've always used the high end Tasco ProPoint red-dots, [single base / 1x mag @ $100.00]
and I've had amazing luck with them! I actually got another one this past year - Still in the box..
I was going to mount it on one of my rifles, but, went with a Nikon adjustable magnification scope instead..
As much as I like them, I can only use them in certain conditions.. Why? Well.. I'm Red/Green colorblind..
I can see the dot fine if I'm shooting targets, but, if I point it anywhere in the grass, woods, etc.. Nope! haha
So I'll just throw that out there.. Just in case..
If anyone is colorblind, and plans to use a red-dot to hunt with, you might want to look into a Blue-dot..
[I might even invest in a few cheap blue laser sights just to have point-and-shoot backups]
Anyways, the last setup I had - Ruger 10/22 donor [built match grade bench rest rifle w/ Tasco PP red-dot]
I could hit targets at 25, right to 50, and still 100 with barely any hold-over that I remember..
I used to shoot .22 casings at 25 and 50 yards, and .223 / 308 casings & shotgun shells at 100 yards.
