Need advice from hill hand pump owners

Hey guys I am a single dad with fixed income so my money needs to be conserved. That being said I am looking for a second hand pump. I have been using the cheap chinese 40 dollar hand pump with an aftermarket inline filter. It pumps all my guns pretty well and I dont get any h20 in my guns. I want to hear from people that have used the hill pump and the chinese pump and tell me what the difference is. Im trying to figure out if its worth the extra cash for the hill or if i should just get another Chinese one. Thanks

I am interested in the answer to this as well. I purchased a Hatsan branded chinese air pump from Midway on sale https://www.midwayusa.com/product/758833/hatsan-tactair-3-stage-hand-pump-pcp-air-guns for about $60. When it is working it pumps fine but I have had to repair it twice in the last 4 months by replacing various O-rings and gaskets. I am guessing I have only used it in the neighborhood of 25 times and have been meticulous about lubing it between use. The pump came with a bunch of replacement orings but many of them do not fit the pump or are so hard they are useless. Hatsan could not even provide me with a parts list or a replacement O-ring kit when I contacted their service department. I could have sent it back for warranty but I did not want to be out of service. On the first breakdown I was able to fix it with some O rings from Ace Hardware and the included kit. On the second breakdown I was able to fix it with a "kit" that I had preemptively ordered from Aliexpress after the first breakdown.

So I do not trust the reliability of my Hatsan chinese pump and have been tempted to purchase a used Hill pump that a few folks have been offering lately on forums. If nothing else it seems that replacement parts are easy to identify and purchase for the Hills. I think Benjamin pumps are easy to find parts for also.

I love my hill mk4. But it still needs cleaning and maintenance just as much as the Chinese pump.

The biggest thing for me is being able to fill to 250 bar and doing it safely.

Imo, if you only need 200 bar, can get maintenance parts for it, go with another Chinese pump. I used the poop out of the vevor pump I bought off amazon, definitely was worth the 60 bucks.

I have two Hill Mk4's and 7 PCP's and fill exclusive with the Hills, I don't know about the cheap ones but the Hill Mk4's are great, I shoot about 500 to 1000 pellets per week, I go to 230b most days and 250, now and then in my Impact. The orings don't need changed that often but the entire pump must be disassembled and cleaned from time to time, trickery the first time for me anyway, there is a filter in the base I clean and reuse it. Kits are available but be sure you get the proper Mk# 3or4 ect. If orings are changed be sure to change them all, I didn't the first time because some looked good, had to email Hill in England, (great outfit) to get me sorted. Very little siclone grease is needed, it gets in the filter if too much is used, I also added extra filters and dessiccent. I've been pumping for 15years not foolin' with tanks and compressors, wanna' arm wrestle?

Lol I have a yong heng compressor. It broke last month and I have it in pieces under my workbench. Waiting for a seal rebuild kit to come in from ali express. I bought 3 full kits and a member here gave me a free yong heng compressor with a bad motor for parts. I am going to see if i can run a 8hp gas motor to the compressor and connect it to a small radiator and fan and run a beastly electric water pump through it. Also plan on porting some oil holes in there. If i succeed I might have a yong heng that can fill an 88cf tank in 1hour with continuous use and no need to turn off to cool off. I will let u guys know if I pull it off.

I have a cheap import pump, $52 from Amazon, and I have a Hill MK3 (BSA pump, made by Hill). I used to have a Hill MK2 pump years ago as well. Here's my thought. The import pump has worked well for the past year, I've filled my Gauntlet and Matador R3M long, many many times. I did have a problem at first with the pump but after about 300 strokes or so, the check valve was not working correctly. Took the pump apart and cleaned everything, re-lubed with silicone oil and all has been good since. The pump is not refined like the Hill but it seems to pump to 220 bar pretty easily, so I shouldn't complain.

The Hill pump is just a better pump overall though. It's quite a bit smoother to pump than the import pump, and the quality appears to be a lot nicer. Also, I had a Hill MK2 for about 5 years, used it to pump my AA 400 many times. Over 5 years of ownership of that pump, it never ever failed me. I kept the main shaft lubed with silicone oil every now and then, it never skipped a beat. The newer MK3 is just as nice and built well.

I still like the import pump, it came with a few rebuild kits, something the Hill pumps don't include. I'm glad I own both since I own 3 PCPs.

I also have a Shoebox F10 and a 18Cubic Foot CF tank, it has spoiled me beyond belief. I can fill the CF tank from 3000 to 4500 psi in under 30 mins and I'm good to go for a while.

Yes, it's worth the extra for a quality Hill pump. I bought mine used from AoA in great condition for $130, rebuild kits are cheap.
