N/A Need Advice on a PCP Purchase

Going to buy a PCP for a friend. I have a compressor, multiple 88 cu ft carbon fiber tanks and lots of extra scopes so let’s leave this out of the equation.

Haven’t been a buyer for a PCP for over 6 years so I’ve researched this site until I’m cross eyed and short circuited. The only thing I know for sure is that a lot has changed. Would greatly appreciate you experienced and knowledgeable folks sharing your advice.

Here’s the criteria:

ENERGY/POWER-Looking for something around 20 fpe (700 fps with 18.1 gr)

LENGTH-Prefer carbine (something around 36” overall length including moderator)

ACCURACY-He will only be shooting out to 20 yards and rarely to 25 yards. Need something that can put 10 shots inside a quarter at 20 yards. In other words, I am looking for a barrel that has legendary accuracy and do not want to play the Chi-com barrel lottery.

ERGONOMICS-He is a traditional firearm guy. Not opposed to tacticool but would prefer that the cheek weld not be on cold metal (maybe an aftermarket cheek rest?) and the forearm shouldn’t be a picatinny rail. Ideally, think along the lines of an FX Ranchero carbine or Cricket Mini Carbine.

CALIBER-Must be a .22 caliber

SOUND-Needs to be quiet or be able to be made quiet

SHOT COUNT-Would really like something that could get around 80 shots on a fill.

MULTI-SHOT-Need magazines that work or has aftermarket magazines that work well.

BUDGET-Would like to stay around $1,300 for gun only

Any suggestions? Thank you in advance.

If you can find an FX dreamline, I'd also consider that as an alternative to the DRS. The Dreamlines get more shots per fill and has an adjustable transfer port to easily step down in power for closer range shots (which also dramatically increases the shotcount). They'll be a bit longer than your length criteria but they're still very light. I would highly suggest having the power plenum installed (utah airguns could do this) as it lets you decrease the regulator pressure and achieve a higher shot count for the same power output.

You don't have to spend that much to meet that spec including accuracy. I have P35s in 177, 22, and 25 and all are more accurate than your requirement. On the 30 ys challenge their bests are 197, 200, and 194. The 10 ring is about 1/8th inch. $367.05 right now at Krale. A Stoeger Bullshark is very similar.

If you want something more high end Air Maks guns are around your price point. The Katran compact in 22 has about the power you specify (p35 would need to be returned (they are regulated)). Caiman is even shorter. Even the Caiman X which I have is under 36 inches.

Id get an FX DRS Wood Stock and down tune it to suit his needs.
Appreciate your advice. I'll look into the FX DRS. Hope it can get the shot count I'm lookig for.

Thanks for the suggestion. Higher shot count than the FX DRS has piqued my interest.

Wow JimD lots of suggestions. Thanks. Don't know anything about any of the models or manufacturers you're suggesting. My instinct tells me that a $367 pcp would be buying a project but I will look into P35's. I will also research the Air Maks guns specifically the Katran and Caiman.

Not too sure that you can fit one in the budget but it would be close. Daystate Huntsman. Checks all the boxes and is one classy air gun.
Another vote for the Daystate Huntsman. Will tick all the boxes except shot count.
Thanks Gentlemen. Years ago I owned a Daystate Huntsman Revere. Great little rifle. Shouldered well and was very accurate. Reminded me of an FX Cyclone and an AA S410 carbine that I owned. Shot count is a deal breaker though. Thanks again. Any other suggestions?
