Need gun safe recommendations

Good morning everyone, I have been browsing safes and would like to stay around the $500 mark. I saw a no frills but real safe from Cabela’s for $550, I missed the costco ones by a day, darnish. I would like 8-10 gun capacity

Any other places to look or recommendations?

@Blackpaw Don’t pay attention to the “gun capacity” number. It’s a joke. Check out sporting goods store (Dick’s, Academy, Big 5, Bass Pro, etc), hardware stores (Lowe’s, Home Depot, etc), feed & farm supply stores as well. Be sure that you aren’t purchasing a glorified gym locker. In that price range pay attention to the fire rating (time and temperature). Some of the more expensive safes will have a water resistance rating as well.

This is the one I’m looking at. And I’m on the third floor of an apartment so weight has to be considered too though there is an elevator and cabelas will deliver.

They claim 10 guns and fire resistant.

@blackpaw My friend, don’t just trust what I’m saying. Listen to what other members have said in previous posts on the topic. Also look at some video reviews on YouTube. It’s simply a claim probably based upon a specific unscoped long gun that you won’t be placing in the safe. You may find out where they come up with that number somewhere in the small print. Those “gun numbers” regarding safe capacity are usually complete BS at the consumer level. If you attempt to place 10 air rifles in that thing I can pretty much assure you that you will damage some.

There are companies that make money on selling component systems to reconfigure gun safes to hold guns more securely and to simply hold more guns. I wouldn’t intentionally go out of my way to mislead you. I’m asking you to look into this for yourself for your own benefit and peace-of-mind. Also so you don’t spend your money thinking you’re buying something that will not do what it claims for your intended purposes. Oh and the fire resistant element is largely based upon the use of gypsum (sheetrock) on the interior of the safe. Sheetrock does not burn easily. Look at the picture of the open door. That thin piece on the inside of the door is a piece of sheet rock covered in fabric. Speaking of fabric, the door appears to hold 3 three pistols so let’s say you want to cram 7 air rifles in this “10 gun safe,” it’s still not happening. Not scoped and definitely not air rifles with bottles for reservoirs. Considering your living space and location a small safe is probably best suited for you. Just be aware and realistic about how many air rifles it can hold securely.

@bear-of-grayling It does appear to be a good value. It would probably be a great buy on sale or with a coupon. I believe he can fit 10 air rifles in that one. Even still I’d take note of what other members have posted about protecting airguns within a safe with that sort of configuration. I saw a few companies that make or sell accessories to reconfigure gun safes. This one has some decent looking stuff. They have YouTube videos demonstrating how to install and use some of their products too. https://www.secureitgunstorage.com/gun-storage-accessories/

Agree. Most generic interiors are inefficient at best. They have some good ideas there. Thanks

Thanks guys and I found this Winchester safe at tractor supply and for now it’s in budget and they will deliver $150 but what can I do. Thing weights 220 lbs so within weight limits and big enough for the near term. $450ish they said they will deliver. The store isn’t to far from my office so I’ll go check it out.

Cost more than u like but liberty safes would be my recommendation.

I agree!

I think mine was around $750 ( a bit higher than the OP's budget ), but very satisfied. Have the humidifier bar at the bottom and they delivered to my home. I think they claimed it could hold 'approximately' 12 guns, but like was previously mentioned, cut that number in half with scopes for enough room. There are six guns in there now with scopes and I have a HW100 which can also fit in there as well. I might be able to get 8 guns with scopes in this safe, but then I would have to buy another gun! Lol..
