Need Help/Advice. re: Tank valve leaks.

So the Valve on my Omega SCBA leaks profusely when I open it to “Feed” my guns. The gun still gets a fill, but a lot of air is escaping. Seems to be around actual knob valve, not the bleed etc. No air leaks out when closed.

Can anyone advice me how to fix? Or should I send it in? Don’t want to mess it up either.

Will update with pictures when I can.

Thanks!

Just to be clear, sounds like your SCBA/ SCUBA /fill source.... - Call Joe B if you want more but...
Personally, I don't want to remove my fill valve but the hydro shop has done so a few times with no ill effect.(even if you need to go that far)
But it's really (probably) no more than an oring, Joe, if not others, can prob tell you which one. Size will depend upon what set up you have.

"BigTinBoat"It's probably the o-ring.
If it's anything like my SCBA valve here is what you do.
Degas the tank and then remove the handle. Under the handle will be a nut with the handle shaft sticking thru it. This nut is removed by turning CLOCKWISE. There is an o-ring right under the nut that is likely leaking.
Thank You! Tank de-gased already. Will have to wait till Monday. Thanks again.

Think I’m gonna need a new glycerin filled gauge. Mine leaking after tumble, slightly dented too. Thank God Tank suffered no damage.

Order from ebay. Need to check your thread size but most likely 1/8 or 1/4" NPT.

Here's a 5K 1/4" npt back mount gauge for under $12. Do some searching I've gotten Wika gauges under $20 too

"intenseaty22"Awesome Possum! Thanks. Not sure of thread size, but will find out somehow.

"
1/8" Pipe" says Juan. I'm guessing NPT Might want to send him a message and see for sure if it's NPT or BSPT. It's definitely not BSP as the teflon tape for sealing gives that away. I've never seen any gauges BSPT so most likely NPT

Here's a 1/8"npt back mount 2" filled for $20

OK. Actually had time to mess with it tonight. I’m pretty sure that Last Gauge you posted/e-bay is the ine I need. Below find some pictures for your viewing pleasure. Everything works righty tighty, lefty loosie. Notice the broken O-ring. This was sent damaged by the vendor, been leaking upon opening, then sealing when fully open. Was told it was “normal”
The O-Ring seems to be about 15mm wide by 1 or 1.5 in thickness.

Is there a "seat" at the bottom of the gauge hole where an o-ring, or flat delrin or teflon washer sits? If so then it's parallel BSPP thread. Your valve looks different then the one in Juan's video. Teflon tape (or other liquid sealer) is used on tapered threads. A washer or o-ring is used on parallel. If that gauge and adapter threaded in that far by hand and is not getting tighter as you get in over a 1/4 way, then the fitting is BSPP. The valve could be either as BSPP will usually thread into NPT but not seal correctly.
The seat in valve (the same distance down as length of fitting) with washer indicates it's BSPP. Threads can throw you off they are so close.

Someone damaged that o-ring on assembly as that's a static o-ring. That nut should not move during normal operation of the valve.

OK. So. There was no oring or washer in the seat. Just the teflon tape used.
Based on this, I just put in an order for that Gauge, it looks right. If it isn’t, oh well....
I also ordered a kit of O rings from Amazon. Seems like Airgun Orings are a mystical and magical enigma that can only be found at the end of the Rainbow. Hope I can use a couple sizes from that. If not, again, Oh well...
Thank you much for the help and advice.

WIKA makes gauges with both NPT and BSPP. If it had teflon tape then it should be NPT. If it is BSPP and you use tape in a NPT fitting you have a 50-50 chance of it sealing.

Update: Been working with it and trying different things. The O-rings I got were pretty useless for my needs, but should come in handy for other projects, no loss. Everything I tried with the O-rings lead to leaks when enough pressure ensued. So I used Teflon on the inner thread and, so far, it is holding pressure. I used the Wika for now, just to see what happens. Will load tank to 100 bar and turn it off to see if it holds until I receive the proper gauge.

"BigTinBoat"Not sure if it's similar or not but inside my SCBA valve there is an o-ring that mates up to this surface when it is screwed in. It sits in a groove inside the valve. Might want to see if yours has one.

The only O ring mine had was the one you see there at the base. Problem is, I’m lacking in O rings. It is possible that it was sitting at the base and got worked up to where it is sitting on the picture after it cracked. ?.

Not likely that the o-ring moved. There looks to be a groove where your o-ring is. Maybe it's just the wrong size. Have you pulled out the silver slotted pice to check the seal under it? With the handle off of it it should just press thru and likely a flat washer under it.

In the below pic you can see my o-ring down in the valve as well as the "flat" (green) washer to seal the handle shaft
