Need Input For First Nice PCP For Friend

I have an elderly friend who wants to get into PCP's. He has everything else in the world so not afraid of collatoral costs etc. Below is a basic criteria I worked up based on his needs.

So far I am leaning towards RAW 1000 Chasis or a Daystate from Revere on the low end to Wolverine Hi-Lite on the high. I thought Brocock Sniper but why bother when you can get a Wolverine. I am thinking FX is out as he doesn't want a project gun to get it right. He doesn't want to sent it out of the country for service. It will be his only PCP at this point so he needs a good experience. You guys got any suggestions? 

1. $2200 Budget without scope (doesn’t have to spend this much)

2. Simple LIGHT FAC setup. First and maybe only PCP. (famous last words lol) I would think 8lb absolute max weight. Lighter is better. Good amount of off hand shooting and prefers light for that.

3. No Bullpup. Wants conventional or Full length chassis style.

4. Short older retired guy.

5. Wants magazine fed. No single shot.

6. Needs to have moderator changed easily or attached if none on it. (threaded) No blowtorch, shroud mods, tap/die etc for moderators.

7. Not into tuning. Just wants to shoot it. Primarily squirrels, rabbits, starlings, pests and informal target. No competition.

8. Probably 50yds max distance and most often less.

9. 177 or 22 caliber. He seems to be really leaning towards 177 despite me trying to pull him more to 22cal. He likes higher shot count and has an HW springer in 177.

10. Capable of aproximately 20ftlbs 177 and 30ftlbs 22. 50 shots min a fill.
 
if your gonna go Daystate and Wolverine, id just bite the bullet and get a RED wolf ,RAW is nice ,i have 2 but



heavy,FX Crown is nice choice able to shoot any caliber and lots of people work on them including FX N C is where they have EARNEST the magician working on them,cant go wrong with a Weihrauch HW 110 you can get it in any stock he like wood laminate or synthetic in a variety of stocks ,, also he may want the carbine version ,,lastly the CLX or 160 was just released from BSA i nice gun really nice and your friend may prefer the bolt action HYNZIE4S

I'll second the above recommendation for a Revere or regal. Just a great all around gun that seems to meet all your requirements. I know I love mine in .22, the starlings don't though!

I say set him up with something most people find appealing and not over the top. Get him a Daystate Revere regulated .22 , mount a lightweight American made optic, leupold or nightforce with some good rings and see if he likes it.

I have a Regal XL and he really liked it. It was short, light easy to handle. I don't think he would like the stiff bolt pull so the Revere made sense. Then he started ogling at my AZ customized Rapid MKII. It seemed a rather large gun to me for him but what we want is not always what others would want for us. That's why I was looking at some of the more bottle guns. He had a hard time believing the thin tubes would hold enough air.

First off, great post. That's the way to start off a "Which airgun?" thread by listing budget, wants, and needs.

I was going to recommend the Revere but now I'm not sure if he wants the same thing you have but it's still a good gun in .177 or .22cal. I have a Regal XL in .22 but I still wouldn't mind picking up a Revere myself. If he's looking at something with a bottle, maybe the Brocock Bantam XR would fit him. Just keep in mind that anything with a bottle is going to add a little more weight. If he has any problems in the future, AoA will take care of it and he wouldn't have to ship it out of country. I don't own one yet but hear good things about them.

The RAW 1000 chassis says it is only 7.85 lbs which is just over the Wolverine at 7.5lbs. You are right the RAW would be at the absolute very end of the weight spectrum. The Revere being only 6.2lbs



I think the Red Wolf might be a bit much with the techno bells and whistles for a first PCP. The Crown I think is a bit fragile and a great benchrest gun but not so much a stomp around the bushes squirrel/pest type gun.



I showed him my HW100 FSB and he liked that but thought it too heavy. I think HW ruined the HW100/110 by getting rid of the shroud and going with a giant moderator. The FAC Sporter is a freaking surf pole length and the FAC Carbine is no longer a carbine length. They do still make sense in a 12ftlb gun with the shorter barrel. The FAC needs considerable fiddling internally to dial in as they come too hot.

Air Arms 510 with walnut stock is a beautiful and very accurate gun. It feels like a traditional gun too.

I considered the AA 510 walnut but it is a pound heavier than the Regal/Revere and single shot which is a deal breaker. You have to get a poplar stock to get the magazine fed version from what I saw. It is about same price as the Regal and doesn't really add anything different but a pound in weight. The Revere has a Huma regulator and over a pound lighter.

Dealer stock has been very very poor on these AA for a year now. I almost wonder if they still make them, at least for the US market.

The HW100TKFSB with an aluminum cylinder is much lighter than with the standard tube. Comes in close to a pound lighter . The aluminum tubes are available from ratworks on EBay and the rifles from https://www.airgunforum.ca/store/index.php?cPath=22&osCsid=joiijpg3grt3p80ellv1sjlva2



keep in mind those are Canadian prices which puts them pretty close to Krale . I’ve bought a lot of stuff from Dan the store owner . Very fast shipping .

True on the aftermarket cylinder but you still have a fishing pole with no shroud and a long moderator. I think the HW100 carbine comes in at 48 inches or something. That is if you can find the carefully hidden specification on "length with moderator" for an FAC version of any HW100. The Rat gauge is a toy and pretty much has to be replaced with the original gauge. To do that you need that rediculous "nobody ever has it" deep 36mm 12 point socket. HW is a great build and I like shrouded version. They just refuse to lighten the gun and develop their own quality aluminum cylinder with gauge and shorten the overall length to be competative.

There are 3 I can recommend from experience: FX Royale 400, Daystate Revere, and Weihrauch HW 100. I would recommend the HW 100 model with moderator. Yes, it takes heat to initially remove it, but that's a simple 10 minute, one-time job. The moderator is one of the best, and it's far more effective than the FSB model. Unlike the newer FX rifles, the Royale platform is simple and usually trouble free.
