Need Replacement YongHeng Compressor Motor

Hello All,

I purchased my compressor about a year ago and it has performed well but when I tried to use it last night, the circuit breaker reset button kept tripping once the compressor reached around 3400 PSI. After many attempts, I ran it for like 5 minutes with the valves open and it ran fine until I closed the valves and began to develop pressure. The circuit breaker is an over current protection breaker and not a thermal overload breaker so I am relatively confident that the motor is drawing too much current (over 16 AMPS) when it is under load so I am thinking I need to replace my motor but I cannot find anywhere I can buy this motor. It was an ebay purchase and I have sent an email to the seller but they sell everything from compressors to Q-Tips so I don't expect any help from them. That brings me to you guys (The Real Experts). Can anyone point me in a direction to get this compressor operational again before the zombie apocalypse hits?

By the way, it is the YongHeng 220V with auto shutoff.

I have no idea where they would sell an exact replacement motor, but you might try removing it and taking it to an industrial supply company like Grainger. They may be able to match with another brand motor.

Great idea. I opened the compressor and there is no housing around the motor and no markings at all. Grainger may be able to figure out what will work. I'll look into that.

Hi Joe,try plugin it into a outlet closest to the main breaker box?OO i see it's 220? maybe wire straight off the box?

My friend has one. You would have to pay the shipping. He is super cool. He just gave me some other parts off the compressor. Motor is fully intact and working. PM me.

Actually it has a decent gauge cable that is only 4 ft. long so i'm about as close to the breaker as I can get. I looked at the circuit breaker in the compressor and it is only a 13 amp breaker and it is mounted touching the side of the motor. Since it is a current overload protection device, getting heat from the motor may be causing it to fail prematurely but it worked fine all last year. I will relocate the circuit breaker to gain an inch or so separation from the motor. If that doesn't work, I think I am going to bump it to a 15 amp breaker. I know that is not recommended but if the motor is useless to me now then frying it will only motivate me to quit monkeying around with it and get a new compressor since I can't find a replacement motor. It appears that the motor housing was removed and the stator and rotor were installed without a housing. Odd! Knowing that these current overload breakers work off of heat, I may try to set a couple of large fans blowing at the back of it to see if this helps at all too.

Thanks for the recommendations everyone. I will let you know how it goes. If you see a small plume of smoke coming from the Upstate of SC, you will know I went with the bigger breaker.

I suggest you measure the current with a clamp meter to determine if you get 13a before you replace the motor or mess with the circuit breaker.

For what it is worth, I found that the breaker was in contact with the side of the motor which gets very hot. Since these breakers are for over current protection, it was tripping prematurely. I relocated the breaker to the left side of the compressor and the problem went away.
