Need some info on LPVOs and SFP scopes

I have been in the market for a compact + lightweight scope for a while. I have tried out a few...Currently have a Vector Veyron 3-12x44 FFP which is one of the lightest and shortest scopes ive found. I've only owned FFP scopes, I just don't like how thin the reticle is at low magnification.

What I want to know is:
If my use will be mostly backyard plinking+targets at about 30y and occasional pesting, will a SFP scope work okay for me since I won't be doing many holdovers or changing magnification that often? I prefer that it's easier to see the reticle too.

This brings me to LPVOs.. I love the look and style most of them have, I would prefer to get an LPVO from Vortex most likely the Crossfire II or maybe the Bushnell AR, both illuminated, 1-4x24mm, SFP, and similar price. (Feel free to recommend any good budget LPVOs)

Are there any OTHER major disadvantages I'm not thinking of comparing this choice to a FFP scopes? I have a bunch of gift card credit on amazon, and the easy returns let me go back to a FFP model if I need.

Basically... would I be better off keeping the Veyron (or something in the same category) with FFP or would using an SFP LPVO not be a huge "downgrade" or much of a difference for my uses?

Any info is appreciated. thanks!
Why not simply use your current scope at 12x? Or is it too thin at 12x? I shoot targets with my West Hunter 3-12x44 FFP, IR with the scope on 12x. The IR makes the reticle target useable from 6-12x, I have used the scope at 3x for sub 15 yard pesting.

Yeah I probably would do that. the sight picture isnt too different honestly. Either that or trade out for a 4-16 that will be a bit easier to see plus IR

I have a Monstrum G3 1-6x24 FFP that I use for pesting under 70 yards. The reason I went that route is because I wanted lockable tactical turrets You can also get a G2 with SFP. I have one of those too, however, the turrets aren't lockable. Also, I do like the recticle on the FFP. At 2X it is thin but not overly thin. It is also one of few LVPO that do not have reticles setup for 5.56 ranges.

Hey I was meaning to ask about those items. I see Monstrum all over amazon and usually for good prices on FFP scopes, etc. Are they decent quality that holds up compared to others? I never see them mentioned. And yeah that reticle and the tactical turrets is nice.

How long have you had it? Lots of people saying they has some quality control problems

About 2 years ago I had my AR-15 with a G2 knocked off the bench and it marred the hell out of the top turret. To this day, that rifle holds a zero every time I bring it to the range.

I also have a Rem 700 .270 with a Monstrum 6-24 on it. It is my ranch rifle and gets banged around my truck and UTV all the time. It's one of my most dependable rifles.

As far as the glass goes, it is far better than the other $100 trash scopes that you see on Amazon. They are pretty decent for the price. One con I do have is at 3x+ magnification you cannot focus on a target at 10 yards. There have been a number of times where I was at 6x magnification clearing pigeons at 30-60 yards and then one lands in the tree above me at 10ish yards. You need to drop to -3x or your focus will be fuzzy. It's understandable though as that is a drawback to any scope with no parallax adjustment.

One other thing to be aware of. All the Monstrum scopes have a fairly large center dot in their reticle. It's not a big deal on a SFP scope but can get annoying on a FFP scope at high magnification. I would say it is close to a 1 MOA dot as it looks like it matches the 1/4" center circles on my targets at 20 yards. So at 50 yards at 6x magnification it will probably cover a bird's head.

Okay thanks for the info...
For now I will stick with the Veyron, they are lighter than some LPVOs even, I'll have to do more research on a decent one
