Hi folks,
I am about to purchase a new Crosman 2240 and I have some questions. I have limited local resources for accessories/ammo so I will be ordering some oil and ammunition along with the gun. Is the Peloil a special formula or is there something more generic I could safely use? I know all guns have a favorite projectile, any suggestions on what to get for holes in paper? I will be upgrading to the steel breech, any compact red dots that fit right on to the 11mm dovetail without an adapter? Presuming the front sight comes off are there any front globe/rear peep sight sets out there as replacements? I’ve been looking quite a bit and I’m not really seeing what I am looking for. Thank you!

just a couple of thoughts..I think you can order it new with the factory steel breach from pyramid air.. that way you won't have to upgrade and pay more and yet have to change parts..
assuming that you are ok with the front sight but want a peep sight,id suggest the Williams peep sight, well made, micrometer click adjustment, veneer scale on the side and top for repeatability. as far as oil..pellgun oil or you could possibly use automatic transmission fluid..I don't use the transmission fluid myself in my airguns since I have PCP and spring break barrel.. but I do use it for all my shop air tools instead of the very expensive compressed air tool oil and my impacts have had the most use and no issues in 30 years..

I forgot the ammo part of your question.. I'm sure jsb pellets will be good..I really like the jumbo monster redesigned ones.. however if you are on a budget I would think that you would have very good success with crossman premier hollow point.. it's mostly what I shoot, I catch them on sale at Walmart and 22 caliber 500 round tin was around $6 each so I bought a couple cases..I think they are only $7 not on sale.. they are great in my hatsan blitz, since it's hungry.. and work well in the others.

my question is why buy a 2240 at all any more the Diana chaser is a far better pistol
if the Chaser and the 2240 came out at the same time the Chaser would have buried the Crosman
oh i have a dozen custom 2240 and 6 Chasers been in each rabbit hole to the bottom
so lets look at a few things
finish Chaser
breech Chaser aluminum
sights Chaser adjustable
trigger Chaser but the 2240 could use a 1701p trigger group and hammer
Barrels a push
grips well the 2240 could go with wood or change the grip frame
Chasers grip is fine but Buck Rail makes a frame with 3D printing and can use AR-15 or adapt to 1911
price is getting to a push
Chaser comes in .177 and .22

your choice

Buy direct from Crosman, super to deal with.

I would start with Crosman pellets, then try something from JSB if they don't meet your expectations.

If you already have an open bottle of transmission fluid in the garage, it will work as well as pellgun oil. I would not buy a quart just for airguns though, you will never use it all. If you are ordereing from Pyramyd, just throw a couple tubes of pellgun oil in the cart. It will last awhile, so don't overthink it.

Do you want a scope, red dot or iron sights? Peep sights are usually not used unless you mount a stock to it to make it a carbine not a pistol.

Thanks for the info. I was planning on getting a couple of tubes as you suggested. I was just curious if something else I may have already will work. I do have multiple bottles of air tool oil, winter and summer formulas. Sounds like that may work fine. Regarding ammo, my biggest concern is weight per projectile. I know all guns have their favorite weight range. I shoot LOTS of rimfire so I am used to finicky firearms. I am very comfortable shooting peep/globe sights so they would be my preferred option (aging eyes) with a compact red dot as my second choice. I was hoping to find a red dot that mounts directly to the 11mm dovetail without the adapter but that seems somewhat futile. Thanks again for responding.

I checked them out, looks like I will be headed that way.
Welcome to the 2240 rabbit hole. Crosman 14.3 gr work fine for most shooting. JSB 14.3 gr are usually a little more accurate. Good luck, whatever you do.
Thank you Bob.

you are definitely correct,I never thought of buying transmission fluid just for airguns, but since it's already in my shop by the gallon it's easy..I probably have used less than a quart in my air tools in 30 years.. and they go through a lot more air than you could possibly use in a air gun.
