New acquisition for FT, very good, but still tweaking!

I bought a used LG110 FT from a friend last Saturday. Made a good deal and saved a ton of money from the new price. I also bought an extended air tube from him and traded back the old tube. The original blue tube was not a quick fill like the Black one. Problem: the new quick fill is 4.5" longer then the barrel. I feared it would possibly cause turbulence with the pellet as it ran along the tube causing wobble...I have my sights on a longer tube and or a moderator from AZ that would bridge the gap.

So far so good! It did not seem to effect the pellet...I shot 5 shot groups the first day out 0 yds putting all under a dime. I tried several brands of the same wgt 10.34 pellets and some lighter 8.4 ones. Good groups, but I wanted and expected better. I took the advice of the seller and lowered the pellet speed. I took it from 905 to 875 fps. It did the trick so far. I used the 10.24 JSB Exact Match pellets again and shot two 5 shot groups at 15 yds and 30 yds. The wind was crossing at 10-15 mph from rt to left. It was steady blowing.

I included the target here....The wind did not affect the pellet poi at 15 yds but did move them around at 30. I will tweak it a little more with diff pellets brands and head sizes, to try to match the 50 meter target card that is stapled to the owners manual. They did a 3 shot group I believe. The 15 yd, 5 shot group I did matches their 50 meter 3 shot. My goal is to get a windless day and match their holes but with 5 shots instead of only 3... We'll see. Then it off to the Wanna be like Manabe challange..... Look out mike, I trying to get to your level.....lol

Nice catch, it is one of my all time favorite guns.
I used to have 2 of them but sold one because it was time for something new, and made a decision that I want to stick to 3 guns only, not more.
I used to have 3 barrels with it, (.177/.22/.25cal) and could cover the whole range from 7 to 70 joules. I think it's the most versatile rifle ever made.
Really simple to adjust and easy to work on. Recently, I sacrificed the .25 barrel to fit to my HM1000x, that's my HP air rifle at the moment.

As mine were both .22 hp Steyrs, I fitted a 60cm .177 HW100 barrel to one of them to participate in HFT matches at our club, and it is a laser.
Longer barrels help shotcount as well, so if you decide to fit a longer barrel, keep the HW100 barrel in mind. They are VERY good.
I have set the regulator pressure at 100bar for my 16 joule HFT setting, it has increased shotcount, and decreased the bark.

Here's a photo of the twins, the top one (2010) is sold, the bottom one (2014) is still here (heavily modified ofcourse ;-) )
I still have my home made custom fitted Hatsan BT65 air tube, so I can choose between a long or short setup. All barrels have been threaded with 1/2x20UNF now, so no more annoying adapters anymore ;-)

regards, Gijs

p.s. 3600 dollars for a new Steyr...... That's a lot of money. In the EU the LG110FT's are around 2200USD, second hand more like 1200/1500USD
Well, I guess with my US RAW, it's the other way around;-)

Gijs, Beautiful rifles. I am a wood guy and really like good wood stocks, but I could not resist the chance to get a high quality rifle for the price I paid. The Styers are the most used rifles in almost all competitions I have been in or seen. It was the most prominent rifle at the 2015 AAFTA Nationals. My first field target match I was flanked by 3 Styers and one Hammerli (looking just like a Styer),With March scopes mounted on two of the guns, it was intimidating...lol

My gun is off to Allen Zasadny for a makeover including bedding and a custom moderator. The versatility of the rifle was a factor in wanting one. As you know the barrel changes possible and the modular components of the rifle make it something special to work with.

Do you compete with your Styer (s) or hunt?

I too am trying to drop down to around 2-3 rifles and 1 pistol. I use mine for FT and BR. I leave hunting to my powder burners...

Since I have one of my air gun lusts out of the wa,y I only have one more. The Thomas FT/Br rifle. I'm even considering selling my Daystate MK4 IS.... A tack driver and beautiful wood stocked rifle, but it now is an extra rifle, Only had it 10 months!.....I hate to get old and more practical.....LOL

To be honest, I am just as much a tinkerer than a shooter :)
Hunting with airguns is not allowed where I live, but I really like shooting and testing at our range. (25-50m benchrest and FT/HFT)
I'm a fun shooter, although a match every now and then is always good fun.
The Lg110's are very common in my country, our club has about 50 members, and an estimated 20 people are shooting a LG110 :)
For now, I have finished modifying the Steyr, and all my machining time is going to the HM1000x
I'm sure Allen Z is gonna come up with a perfectly tuned rifle, I'm curious about the result!

"strikefast"I will post the results after I get it back. What country are you in. Your profile did not have it listed....Weatherby....hmm UK perhaps...
Nope ☺ I'm Dutchman, but I've been living in Belgium for almost 15 years now.
I've shot powder burners for 10+ years, a Steyr SSG sport 308win and a Weatherby mkV 300wby mag, hence my username ☺
Due to a law change and less time to shoot (rebuilding our house, kids etc.), I decided to sell them to my buddy. Airguns are unrestricted in NL/Be.
Although I sometimes miss the smell and recoil of my ex-rifles, I really enjoy shooting airguns. It's just as challenging as "the real thing", and even harder to shoot cloverleafs than with a P.B.

Allen Zasandy called me with some information on my Styer I sent him.He said it was manufactured between 2000 to 2004 and is a model that was produced only one year in it's configuration. He could not remember the exact year. The gun has a diff regulator of metal and diff valve. These internals were only produced in that particular year. He said he felt it was a better manufacture of the internals. He started to tell me the differences, but I admit I faded off with the calculations and measurements after a while. I snapped back in focus when he talked about the barrel. he said it was a barrel made by Anschutz for the gun. He really prefers these shorter 16" barrels for accuracy. He said it looks good internally so far and will ck and replace any seals that are cracked or not good. Sometimes with that valve/regulator, he said the gun is an air hog. He stated I should get at least 70 good shots from the gun. I told him I already did get that for exactly 70 on POA shots before I sent the gun. So he was pleased with that info....

Told him to do whatever he need to to make the gun as accurate as possible. Basically I quoted John Hammond from Jurassic Park .."Spared no expense"Looking forward to all the modifications he is doing, but not the expense....LOL

Mark, Yes he's pinning the bolt on mine too. As well as a new moderator to remove the bulldog look with the extended tank. Also bedding the barrel and what not. He said he would try to get to it before Christmas. That was when I first called last month before shipping. I don't know if that ment to get it started or to have it ready before then.

I told him I was not in a rush and just take his time to get it right. Just need it for a month or so before next years FT nationals in Michigan.

When he called yesterday I thought he was going to tell me bad news until he laid out the gun info.

I adjusted the fps when I first got it. The gun was shooting 10.13 JSBs at 920 fps. I adjusted it to 875 the optimum for the pellet. The sanevi had for my Daystate MK 4.

It is simple but removing the stock was necessary. I can route out the area of the stick to access the adjustment with a long screwdriver.

A friend had this done to his and works fine...

Mine came with the adjuster, but they have upgrade kits so you do not have to remove the stock.
the adjuster and a chrony make it very easy to tweak it in.
My 8.44s and 10.3 like different velocity's, and different die lots like different velocity's also, and the adjuster makes it simple
talk to Allen, I think its an easy install.
you did say ”Spared no expense”
:)
