Brocock/BRK New as in never ever had a airgun before!!!

Welcome, good choice, you have saved yourself a lot of headaches by starting off with a high quality gun. There are many options available today that weren’t available a few short year ago as far as compressors go. Some guys here have had decent luck with some of the Chinese units but buy what your budget will allow. My best advice to you would be whatever you decide to go with, make sure to invest in a good filtration system to keep moisture out of your gun. I’m sure many will chime in and there are a lot of guys here with more knowledge than I have. There is a ton of info on this forum, do your research, like anything else, you get what you pay for. Again, welcome to the forum.

Congratulations and like said above filtration is of the utmost importance! I have an inexpensive 4500psi amazon compressor that I use for back up, works like a charm, but, if you get one make sure to get one that has the option of an extended warranty! I think one of the most important things to do with these cheapies is to start it with bleed valve open then close it after about 10 seconds and to keep just the fan on after using to cool it down for a couple minutes.

I think you made a great choice for a critter killer. I have several Brococks and they are all more than up to doing the job and very reliable. I do hope you consider taking the opossum off your list however. They eat thousands of ticks and don't get rabies. Also they are scavengers and cleanup guys. I do think .25cal. was a great choice for the critters you are after. Welcome to the forum by the way.

Thanks everyone! As long as they stay out of the chicken coup they get a pass. Agree clean up and tick control. Wife’s chickens go missing out of the coup we have a problem LOL!
I went thermal on optic's Pulsar xp50 only retiring once mite as well start to spend the kids inheritance !!!!! Hoping to get some range time in very soon will chronograph and see what holds best.

Looking forward to reading about your forthcoming adventures in airgun pesting…

check your area for a dive shop or paint ball shop to fill a bottle , if you have a place you can fill a cf bottle to 4500 psi ' i would get a 95 cu ft . bottle , nice quiet " easy to fill your gun in 15 seconds ,

Hello everyone old guy retiring soon. Ordered a BRK Ghost in 25 cal. Have large property with critters that need to go! Any advice on set up and fill up much appreciated thank
I have this compressor and it is fantastic. It is on sale right now on Amazon. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another if I needed it.

I retired in late 2019 and got my first PCP, a Prod, shortly thereafter. I have 5 now.

Sounds like you have your gun, compressor and bottle. I hope you did not get a SCUBA bottle (diving tank) but instead got a SCBA (fireman's tank, carbon fiber outside). If you happen to have a SCUBA it could be useful but they have a much lower fill pressure and they are, by design, heavy.

Anyway, JSB heavies are a standard go to and your Ghost should be able to get them going pretty fast. FX 34 grain are made by JSB and are very similar. My 25 caliber P35 likes JSB MKIIs and seems to like FX about as well (maybe better). FX are typically a couple dollars less per tin. A simple domed pellet like these will penetrate the best which you may need on a big coon or possum. For a squirrel they are overkill but they aren't going to do much running after a solid hit. I tune to get them going 800-900 fps. Some shoot faster but others report stability issues, especially in the wind. If your Ghost does not seem to like one of these 34 grain pellets you could also try a H&N Baracuda which is 31 grains. My 177 and 22 P35s like them better than the JSBs I've tried. I'd start with these and possibly the 25.4 FX or JSB pellet and let your gun decide what it likes. You may find your best accuracy requires a little tuning and associated velocity change. I have not found that my guns preference in pellets has been changed by a retune of the gun. Pellets they like at lower power they also like at higher power. But group size may improve by changing the hammer spring and/or regulator setting. I'd start with find a pellet your gun likes and then experiment a little.

You may want to try slugs at some point. They should help with wind drift. I have not found any for any of my 5 PCPs that shoot better than their favorite pellet. But aside from accuracy you have to remember that if they expand penetration will be significantly less. On a squirrel it won't matter at all. But on a 30 lb coon, the slug may not penetrate deep enough.
