Another vote for trying a hammer buffer. Most CO2 guns are oversprung in factory form and consequently quite wasteful of gas. In my experience the shot count usually goes up by 50% or more, which is reason enough to do it but it also minimizes the self-cooling effect that can otherwise cause the CO2 pressure (and velocity) to ratchet down during a shooting session.

For anyone unfamiliar with it, the strategy is pretty straightforward. You’re simply trying to make a bumper that’s just thick enough to drop the velocity by a small amount. Like a regulated PCP, bringing it down to about 95% is a good target. For example, let’s say the velocity is currently 650fps, a good goal would be 650 * 0.95 = 618fps. Small changes in the thickness of the bumper or its hardness make a big difference so it’s a game of trial and error. Potentially time consuming but not hard to do, and very effective once you get it figured out.

Thank you!

I'd wondered why the velocity peak had flattened so much when I was playing with the o-ring buffer mod and tight transfer port. The lessened cooling effect explains it perfectly. I'll dig out the infrared thermometer when it warms up outside.

Cheers,

It was warm enough to get the QB out the other day and it occurred to me that you hadn't posted any chrono numbers for yours, Kenny. Those would be a big help when sorting your rifle out.

Cheers,

I haven’t put her over the chrony just yet. Through a strange twist of fate and a shining example of my own “ADDICTION”, the UPS driver that delivered my AR2079A also delivered my new Walther LG400. The Walther has been receiving more of my attention. I know, I know, I may have a problem😂. I will make an effort this weekend to put them both over the chronograph.

These are nice C02 rifles, mostly metal and wood- I I got one several years ago, was tuned by Rich from Michigan- this gun shoots hole in hole with Gamo Hunters pellets@ 20 yards. Remember setting up some asprin pills on a log & my kids were bailing them every shot lol.
I modified the stock to be able to shoot it lefty - definitely my most accurate CO2 rifles in my collection.
