New CO2 Air Rifle from Crosman

Howdy all! Anyone have any personal experience yet with the new version of the venerable Crosman 1077 CO2 airgun (1077 Tactical) now being advertised on the Crosman website? I'm interested in general discussion about/impressions of/concerns about the new air rifle, whether based only on what's available online, or even better, personal experience (having actually seen the beast), or best of all, having been able to pick one up, examine it, check it out (weight, handling, shooting, etc.); that sort of thing. If interested, your contribution would be very much appreciated.

For example: I'd be INCREDIBLY impressed if this 'new and improved,' tactical version (tactical? ewwwwww, ahhhhhh, ohhhh, etc. <grin>) outperformed one, most, all or none of the earlier versions, or actually comes anywhere near the 780fps advertised, since that's about the same oomph as what I'm (supposed to be) getting out of my Umarex 850 M2 (purportedly suitable for small game hunting). Based solely on the penetration into my homemade pellet traps (repeatedly stuffed with about twenty-five 14"x19" cardboard sheets assembled out of what I salvage from the boxes in which online stuff ordered by my wife and I arrives), my 1077W doesn't come anywhere even close to matching the sheet penetration I get out of my 850M2. Actually, I doubt my 850M2 is shooting even lead-free alloy H&N Baracuda Green pellets (my indoor ammo) at almost 800fps. Are the changes from the earlier 1077 models solely cosmetic, or IS there some notable boost to performance (or handling, or anything else) with the 1077 Tactical?

I hope to hear from y'all, so many thanks!

Hadn't seen the tac variant yet. Pretty interesting. The main thing that sticks out to me in the product details is it says it uses TWO CO2 cartridges. So I would believe it could achieve that FPS. But probably only at 70+ degrees F and with alloy pellets.

I have the synthetic stock 1077 from uh idk 2007 or so and it just uses the one cartridge. It does have the green fiber optic front sight tho so maybe the tac one still use the same barrel shroud, barrel, and front sight as old model just has longer CO2 tube for 2 cartridges.

I've been inside my 1077 more times than I wanted to make it not leak after all those years but I would be interested to see if they have the same internals on the tac version just have a longer tube or if there were any other upgrades. For example the 1077 they say is semi auto but technically it is a double action only revolver, and the trigger return spring has to be compressed to squeeze off a round, so the stock trigger pull was very heavy. Luckily I was able to get it better but maybe that's something they fixed on the new version. Maybe has heavier hammer or different valve to get that FPS too.

So, having been blessed with an eyes-on live appearance, how did you like the looks of the new Crosman 1077 TAC? I know it's impossible to judge an airgun based solely on looks, much less photographs, particularly professionally done, almost certainly retouched photographs, but still, I should say I do like the looks of said beastie. Unfortunately, being nice-lookin' also isn't enough of a reason for me to feel I just gotta have one, so I'm hoping the new air rifle will provide us with more than good looks; some tangible, honest-to-gosh, real improvement(s) over earlier models would be just the thing. No way to know until someone... um, make that an honest someone (being a fairly good writer with a working understanding of English grammar and a reasonably good vocabulary couldn't hurt), actually gets hands-on with the Tac and pens a review article or leaves an information-rich writeup with the online rating they author (fingers crossed) after purchase. Even better, we could have a trusted friend with personal experience give us the scoop. Until then... Like the rest of us, I'll have to just hope for the best and wait to see what happens. At least you could let us know more about how it looks. :)

PS: I didn't expect the 1077 Tac to equal the performance or overall quality of the Umarex 850, but I noted the performance claims when shooting alloy pellets was 750fps, which is right up there with my Umarex 850, also rated, almost certainly too high, at 800fps, so I thought it noteworthy to comment on what seemed like a pretty inflated claim for the real-world. I agree with your assertion about the clothed 1077 and 850M2 completely. :)

To me a 1077 in whatever guise they choose to make it is just one of those guns I have zero interest in owning. I like fun, tactical looking bb sprayers like the various Crosman ARs, Drozd or Barra 400e, I like lower powered tack drivers like the Beeman R7, I like budget guns capable of hunting like the 362 and I like cool replicas like the SA M14 or Umarex M4, but the 1077 doesn't really check any of these boxes for me.

Make it 12 fpe, reasonably accurate, with a decent trigger and without raising the price and I'd be very interested.
