Crosman New Crosman 3622

Im still waiting to see some accurracy reports using the 3622 at hunting ranges . 20-30-40 yards. Where we can see group size and pellet preference.
I'm starting to think maybe this gun is generally bought by folks shooting short backyard ranges at spinners and tin cans.

I think the expectation that this little inexpensive built for fun PCP is going to be useful for hunting at 40 plus yards is unrealistic. This is a plinking, can popping and 20ish yards hunting rifle. At that range the open sights are adequate and useful except for those of us who can no longer see open sights.

My rifle shoots considerably better with the JSB 18 grain pellets @ 16fpe producing consistent and tight groups for 25 shots at 20 yards:

And it knocks HOSPs dead at that range.

The 3622 is a tiny little thing that does exactly what it is supposed to do very well and it is a good modding platform for those sorts as well:

Repeat photos but WTH, I been shooting and not picture taking.

Tell ya what, let's get @mobilemail involved.

he know just about everything on IL air gun laws considering he tired to have the legislation changed for you guys.

Hopefully he responds.
Here is a summary of IL law as it applies to airguns:
1. The laws that exist are so poorly written that many significant items will only be resolved when there is a legal test case, for which I am not volunteering. Losing such a case would likely result in losing all my guns, firearms included.
2. The whole .177/700fps rule is stupid - a 20 gauge lead ball flying at 690fps is somehow less dangerous than a .18 ball flying at 1200fps??? That said, as far as I can tell, the law reads that over .18 OR over 700fps is a firearm. I think paintball is excepted because it is expected to fly under 700fps.
3. With the new IL PICA law, there can be potentially more complications to buying an airgun than just caliber. .22 cal, rifle with pistol grip semi-auto? Fuggedaboutit. And yes, cash in MO, KY or IN will buy a lot of airgun. Or if you have a relative in those states you need to go visit.
4. I suspect enforcement of the law against airguns will vary by how much trouble has been caused locally with airguns, the general area you live in, and how many neighbors are threatened or annoyed by your airguns.

But since the Alton/STL area came up, if some guys in the area get together to shoot somewhere, give me a holler. I don't think I've gotten to shoot with other airgunners since before COVID. I'm 45 minutes out of Alton.

Thank you for responding. I'm in St Charles MO, so it's a bit of a drive for me. Finding time is also a huge issue these days. I'd love to get a few members together and do some shootin!

Hello,
You just made an error in saying anythjng over .18 is an IL firearm. Using the word "over" is not used in the statute that way. Instead it clearly states that .177 is not a firearm, without saying anything about other calibers. It leaves a velocIty standard for all other calibers.

Like I said, they sell .177 that shoot 1200fps down the street with no FOID.
You had said " as far as I can tell, the law reads that over .18 OR over 700fps is a firearm." This is clearly wrong. 1200fps is more than 700fps obviously.

To say anything over 700fps is a firearm is not correct. .177 is exempted. Calbers over .177 which shoot 700fps or over are considered firearms. Please don't spread misinformation, y'all. There are two criteria here and a very basic logical reason for it and easy application of it.

430ILCS65/1......

Its not even confusing really. Pretty sure not everyone struggles with this. Clarifying it is just a waste of time that makes me feel like a troll. If you can't read the statute below and get clarity, I don't know what to say. I'm telling you, the misinformation is endless on this topic.

"Firearm" means any device, by whatever name known, which is designed to expel a projectile or projectiles by the action of an explosion, expansion of gas or escape of gas; excluding, however:
(1) any pneumatic gun, spring gun, paint ball gun, or
B-B gun which expels a single globular projectile not exceeding .18 inch in diameter or which has a maximum muzzle velocity of less than 700 feet per second;

Kinda losing faith in readin' 'roun here, y'all. Honestly.

You obviously haven't read the PICA either.

I can't believe how wrong you are. You think we can't buy a .22. And you think we can't put attachments on it? READ dammit PLEASE.

What can I say, I don't claim to be a lawyer or an expert, I'm just "a guy". I just hope none of us have to parse out these arguments in a court of law. For the most accurate information on the subject, I suggest hashing it out with a 2A lawyer instead of guys on a forum.

Back on subject... It's nice that light, affordable, simple airguns are still available. It appears to me to be the latest iteration of the Benji Discovery/Maximus. For those who have owned both, what is your take?
