new FX Impact MK2 PP leaks air but way small to hear

I am noticing some very minor air loss monitoring the Edgun digital gauge, maybe 2-3 bars a day how it sits in the case and now purposely checking because how I noticed days ago.

All stores closed around me to get a specific air leak tester but I have at home couple sprayer bottles. I know I shall stay away from a dishwasher soap or any cloth washing detergents but I may have some Johnson's baby shampoo or something like that from my car interior cleaning. Assume no corrosive steel on the airgun but again how you manage it?

This is like a pimple on Mr.President's assss, no real damage but you feel it it's there ;(

About the only steel I see on the Impact is the screws that hold it together and the trigger sear and probly the hammer and valve springs the rest is aluminum and stainless. I had a small leak like that on my Impact and it ended up being the tank pressure gauge was a little loose an eighth of a turn fixed it. I have stuck my steel tubed guns in a pail of water to find leaks and never had a problem with them rusting afterwards. I have also used a mild solution of dish soap many times, over the decades, for leak testing with no ill effects.

Hi BigHUN, We are sorry to hear about an issue with air loss if you would like send us a DM with some personal information such as phone number, name, email and we can have a technician reach out to help diagnose the problem and find a possible solution.

Thanks FX US, I am in Canada about two hours drive from AGS. As I sad this was not a complain and not a big deal and I assume I can handle myself. I just need a source for a good shampoo to make some bubbles :)

Check for leaks through the barrel.

Common pp problem!

Common pp problem!

Remove the barrel and check it on transfer port? If water/soap gets in? any possible damage? or just blank shot couple times?

Edit: btw not recognizing what this is on your picture

You can tape a condom, bag or balloon over the end of the barrel. If it inflates your leak is at the valve. If it bubbles near the power wheel its the oring that seals between the valve rod/plenum.

I did a quick bubble bath but not seeing anything weird going on. I could not find a condom so quickly 11 a clock in the evening (I shall maybe phone my neighbour girl next time) but cut of a finger from a latex glove, left the thing for overnight. Will see in the morning. But if my wife asks me tomorrow wth is that I will tell her that wasn't me, this was Glem's idea :)

Ja, ja, it´s a good idea. I´ll tell this to my wife in the future. It´s another advantage of PCP over springers 😜

Here you can see the white oring that it´s very problematic. The white to the left it´s a brand new oring, and the other ones are orings with different state of degradation. If the inside diameter of the seals it´s not correct, the air leaks by the power wheel zone. Could be audible or not, depends on the volume of the leak. There it´s machines that would detect the sound of the leak, but for a human being they are impossible to hear if they are very small leaks. Even with a leak detection liquid it could be very difficult to detect the leak, because if the leak it´s very small you cannot see the air bubbles. Could be that by submerging the gun in water you could check it by seeing tiny bubbles. In this case you should only submerge the rear of the weapon, from the power selector to the rear.

I could hear leaks of 5/10 bar/hour, but not smaller leaks.

In the schematic below you can see where goes this oring (would be 25.2, FX ref: 19678)

Thanks all.

I checked again spraying with soap, also the Impact was sitting overnight with that "condom" attached to the barrel muzzle, nothing shows up with a quick look.

For now this minor pressure drop is showing up only in the Edgun gauge, not alarming enough me to do a deeper surgery on a tuned airgun. I will remove the two gauges again and give a bigger silicon massage only to the fatty orings underneath.

Boy 2-3 bar is a small measurement. I fill in the evening a by mornining see bar difference because of air cooling. Reverse comming in at noon set gun in car will go 20-30 bar up. I would think one would need more data time to confirm leak, like a week in constant temp. I may be wrong on gauge but think it is no more accurate than a regular as it just converts to digital, just numbers for you to read.

Digital gauges can be more accurate...not just easier to read. Mechanical gauges are not as easy to calibrate accurately...especially the cheap small manometers they put in airguns. I suspect there is no actual calibration that happens with them on the production line. On the other hand, a digital pressure gauge use a piezometer and are very accurate and calibration is just a matter of updating a number in a table in the software.
