New green mountain .45 cal blank 16 twist Texan Tx2 valve 😁

I just ordered a green mountain 45 cal 25 inch 1.250 stock blank $68.00 plus shipping. Got a lee 6 cavity .452 230 grain mold on clearance for $28.00😀. I wanted a benchmark barrel but couldn't get the funds😐. I wanted a African Air Ordinance 4500 psi valve. But I'm sure as many of you $500 is more than I spend on my hobby at this time. So what I learned slinging lots of 50 cal slugs down range target shooting and hunting. Is that it needs to be super consistent. This is my first airgun barrel that my lathe has ever seen... I'm going to keep full diameter barrel no bushings. Hoping to go short stiff and .45 acp slings the same lead at the same velocity as the Texan does . I worked at ER Shaw barrels for a little while . The 45 acp barrels always turned out nice . They used 1137 steel that was softer than 4140. It drilled and reamed out nice. The barrels are straight after 30 cal will the drill bit stiffness. 45 caps drilled real straight. So I'm hoping to get lucky with this green mountain .451 barrel blank. I just want something accurate. My Texan looks awesome but I can't take the ethical shots I need too. Im getting disabled and need not to track game. So more money and power won't get anywhere without absolute accuracy. Hoping going down to 45 cal 25 inch barrel shorten length and hopefully shoot the 230 to 250 grains at close to 900 fps and have good accuracy at reasonable ranges. I been working on two stocks for my Texan too. One 3 inch wide bench rest thumb hole from a rem 700 laying around for years. I'm posting my experience so some of you may learn as I do. Many thanks to all is this community for there advice and suggestions.

On all my Lee 6-bangers i notice a cavity or two that either makes a bullet slightly larger or smaller.
I find out when i size and lube lbullets. Some are tougher to size ans some slip right in.

Try weighing some of your cast bullets and see if this is the case for you also.

And by all means add 2% tin for good mould fill out.

Greg E maybe after I get the green mountain barrel chambered up ill send you my factory Texan to do a camera borescope video. Ill post as many pictures as possible. I'm learning as I go. Hoping to get lucky with the green mountain barrel. That had lots of good reviews..... Better to be lucky than good lol. I don't wanna buy a custom mold until I see if the barrel shoots. There are some nice powder coat molds from aersonal molds. More molds and sizeeing options with .451 barrels vrs 457. Lee sizing kits are cheap two sizes for 45 .451 and .452. I hope to slowly build my Texan with multiple barrels all different length s and calibers. Only keeping the accurate ones. I have nice mold selection for .510 cal. But barrels.are much more expensive. Green Mountain has a .510 34 inch cut rifled blank for $250. For me $250 too much to take a chance on a barrel. But $68 was worth taking a chance.

Food for thought.
In powderburners (lubed lead bullets) you sometimers get an unexpected flyer for no apparent reason.
Most often it's caused by to much bullet lube, lube builds up and once in a while a bullet gets (way) to slippery.
To minimise that problem you lube one less groove until it goes avay.
AKA lube purging.

Had a mate with a .416 Rigby that scattered only once in a while. Turned down to one filled groove and it went into a tack driver.

Does not apply to Hitek or powdercoat!

So ill try no lube . Just powder coat. My bench rest wood stock is starting to fit my Texan frame😀. Chicken thief I'm attached both my stock s to the 11mm rail on the texan. Threading into the thin aluminium frame is sketchy. My stock.front forearm screw stripped out shooting out of bog tripod from recoil. I used the cheap 11mmto 20 mm pictany adapter s. So stocks held on securely by rail and screw into the metal thread that goes in the frame. I've learned a lot from this forum and appreciate everyone advice and suggestions.
