HW/Weihrauch New gun day, HW30 .177

Came in today in 3 days flat, Krale is undisputed in shipping. This will be a Xmas gift for a nephew, so I want to make sure it's ready to go. First shots out the box, no barrel clean, no screw check.

The H&N 8's fit pretty tight in the barrel. I bought these to test in my 97K and prosport.

I was expecting a nasty twang, but to my surprise just a very slightest hint of a buzz. More of a twack and sounds solid. It came in late afternoon, so I only had about an hour to mess with it, but I really like this little break barrel, was easy to cock and load and light as a feather compared to my under levers. Might have to get one for myself.

It's been a long time since I tried to sight in iron sights
because I don't use them anymore, because I can't see them..lol. But I did what I could, it was high and slightly right at 20 yards. After cranking on the elevation and windage several times I was close as good as my eyes would see.

I just might slap a Hawke Vantage on it to see what it will really do and find the best pellet for. Don't know if I will take it apart or not yet, haven't decided. But it is fun to shoot so far, I imagine the HW50 would be also. I didn't see any smoke or hear any loud cracks so that's good. Trigger needs a little tweak. But I'll check all this out later.

Nice rifle…I love it..Uncle

You're a good uncle. How old is your nephew? Does he live near you so you two can shoot together?
Well actually my nephews son, he'll be 6 this year. Yes, close by and we shoot together. I'm hoping he'll use this to get his son started out.
And I'll help out when I can, but at this point my nephew will be the main influence. When he gets older I'll come into it more.

More pellet testing today, so I mounted the Hawke Vantage 2-7X32 and shot it on 7power at 20 yards. I tested 6 different pellets and all of them shot good, this little rifle is incredible.

JSB 7.33 and AA Falcon 7.33 both were excellent.

QYS 8.48, H&N 8 and JSB 8.44 also shot great. The H&N 8 fit the barrel the tightest and was the hardest to load.

Very nice, congratulations! That's my all time favorite rifle right there.

I completely agree. Everyone should have an HW30. They will rip right through both sides of a soup can at 55 yards. More than enough for a squirrel or cowbird. I have three. 😀

Four more pellets tested today at 20 yards, had some wind today but not too bad. The AA 7.87 was the best I think, with the RWS superdome 8.3 coming in 2nd. This is the first rifle I've had that will group the superdomes, they're usually shotgun pattern. The H&N FTT 8.64 and H&N sniper medium 8.5 weren't that good.

After this I tried hitting my 1.0" KZ squirrel at 40 yards, after about 20 shots I finally had the hold and knocked it down with the superdomes.
Here's what the superdomes looked like after bouncing off the steel squirrel.

Going to order a Rowan set back trigger blade for it.
