HW/Weihrauch New gun day, HW30 .177

Great little rifles!

Pellet shipment came in today and a new one I want to try in my rifles is the H&N baracuda FT 9.57. So I tried them in the HW30 today at 20 yards.

And it groups these pretty good. These fit snug, about the same as the H&N 8's maybe a tad less.
Then I shot at the 40 yard squirrel. Here's one that bounced off, check the rifling in the pellet skirt, it's getting a good bite.

So far the 30 shoots about everything I put in it.

More pellet testing today, so I mounted the Hawke Vantage 2-7X32 and shot it on 7power at 20 yards. I tested 6 different pellets and all of them shot good, this little rifle is incredible.

JSB 7.33 and AA Falcon 7.33 both were excellent.

QYS 8.48, H&N 8 and JSB 8.44 also shot great. The H&N 8 fit the barrel the tightest and was the hardest to load.

It would only be better with finger groves in the fore stock 😂

@bustachip you also may try the cheapo Crosman CPHP 7.9’s. My R7 shoots them almost as well as it shoots the JSB 7.33 Exacts.
I still have some brown box premiers 7.9 but I haven't tried them yet. I did shoot the Benjamin 7.9 HP the big 750 count tin out of my 97K several years ago, and they shot really well. The premiers always seemed to foul my barrel out and they were hard to load and usually dirty.

Agreed, they can be hard to load and they are dirty. I just happened to have a tin sitting around and tried them and was pleasantly surprised how well they grouped and the fact they’re less than half the price of JSB.

Came in today in 3 days flat, Krale is undisputed in shipping. This will be a Xmas gift for a nephew, so I want to make sure it's ready to go. First shots out the box, no barrel clean, no screw check.

The H&N 8's fit pretty tight in the barrel. I bought these to test in my 97K and prosport.

I was expecting a nasty twang, but to my surprise just a very slightest hint of a buzz. More of a twack and sounds solid. It came in late afternoon, so I only had about an hour to mess with it, but I really like this little break barrel, was easy to cock and load and light as a feather compared to my under levers. Might have to get one for myself.

It's been a long time since I tried to sight in iron sights
because I don't use them anymore, because I can't see them..lol. But I did what I could, it was high and slightly right at 20 yards. After cranking on the elevation and windage several times I was close as good as my eyes would see.

I just might slap a Hawke Vantage on it to see what it will really do and find the best pellet for. Don't know if I will take it apart or not yet, haven't decided. But it is fun to shoot so far, I imagine the HW50 would be also. I didn't see any smoke or hear any loud cracks so that's good. Trigger needs a little tweak. But I'll check all this out later.

I have to agree that their shipping times and delivery time is the best I have seen. I also have to say their packaging is probably among the worst. I was lucky with the air rifles I got from them, no damage, but the factory box was thrown into a larger box with a couple of pieces of wadded paper for filler.
Not as large a package, but I have ordered a couple of watches from a company in Madrid, Spain, called Iguana Sell, and have on occasion gotten the package the next day. They ship UPS international, to Germany, New York, Dallas and then to me in E Texas. Domestic UPS sucks compared to international UPS

1st shots thru No.#2, it's shooting the JSb7.33 about 60fps slower than No.#1 loose fitting.

But shoots the H&N 8's about 15fps faster than No.#1..lol. And they're a tight fit in the barrel.

Some attempted iron sight groups, I'm surprised I could do this good because I'm looking at blurry sights and target.

Congrats on the HW30 springers!

I'm not surprised that you ended up keeping a HW30, they are really nice rifles to shoot.

You mentioned the HW50. I got a .22 caliber HW50 when the HW30 wasn't available. Nice gun and great for roving and pesting.

Finally got a .177 R7 and am pleased with it. The R7 is lighter and easier cocking than the HW50, IMHO better suited for extended plinking sessions.

Cheers!

I think the 30 would be a great woods and squirrel rifle. My buddy got the HW50 and he loves it, he put a Sightron SI on it.

I recently picked out the sightron S1 3-9x32 rimfire scope for my wifes 22lr. It's a heck of a scope for the money. Glass and turrets are excellent. If that thing had a mildot reticle I'd be on the phone asking if it were springer approved. Since I need mildots for air rifles I'm not.

I was so impressed by it I bought a S1 1.75-5×32 for a lever deer gun. Even with 100 yd parallax its focused very close due to low magnification and good glass. Turrets aren't as tactile as the rimfire model but its a wonderful piece close range hunting. It's got a 30-30 (duplex) reticle so I personally won't use it for airguns.

Sorry for the detour I'm just so impressed with these two scopes I wanted to share because l was unaware of them.

This is the one he has, and it has the HHR reticle,
hunter hold over. Not sure if they still have this particular one available.
