Other New guy looking for recommendations

So I caved and just bought the ghost hp in 22cal because it seemed to be highly recommended over the 25cal. I was also able to secure a sale that brought the gun to right around $2100 which seems to be a pretty decent price all in!

But I have to say, this has to be one of the most productive and helpful forums I’ve been a part of in a long time. I have a feeling I am going to want a couple more air guns in the near future so I will definitely take some of these other options into consideration. I can’t thank everyone enough though for the thoughtful responses.

Once it comes in maybe I will attach some pics of my first target?!

Next step is the moderator haha! I haven’t did ANY research on this front though so I am going into this with a blank slate. Might be nice to have two. One small one for lightweight carry and another for the back yard that has maximum suppression. I am open to any and all recommendations!
I recommend a .25 caliber moderator for headache's sake. Minimizes clipping issues. Been there, done that. I prefer Huggets but they all work once you have cranked the Ghost fpe up. The shroud on the barrel is pretty amazing out of the box. The pellet impact is louder than the firing cycle.

The shroud on my Ghost Carbine does not quiet the bark, i have to run a moderator in order to make it backyard friendly noise wise…

I got the HP so perhaps the longer barrel allows for better sound suppression?! I will know soon enough. Hopefully everything arrives by this weekend and I will do some testing.

Nope, same with HP. I run a 0DB on mine but the most quiet (to my ears) on it is Donny Yokozuna (of the ones I tried).

I know you said you want a set and forget gun, but the ghost is just crazy versatile and easy to adjust so you might want to consider getting the spring kit. Will allow you to dial power for lighter pellets as well. This will do more for noise than BB a mod could ever. Got mine set up to shoot 15gr hades at around 940 on PW MIN/1 or 18gr at 885 (32fpe). All you hear is the mechanical noise from the hammer being released and hitting the valve (with 0db). Need to knock something down? No problem, PW 17 and 25gr leaving the barrel at 945 fps (50fpe). Now you can hear it snap (still backyard friendly though).

Im assuming you changed springs and lowered the reg? Ghost is my next with Raw hm1000x close behind.

I have my Ghost setup with the white (lowest power) spring, power wheel set to minimum and regulator set to 100 BAR. I shoot the 16 grain JSB / Hades. Fill to 240 BAR and shoot down to 120 BAR. Works out to 22 fpe which is perfect for backyard plinking. I can crank up the power wheel to maximum and it is a little over 25 fpe. Still quiet at that power level with no moderator. I love the shot count.

Yeah that makes sense, but it’s not the shroud making yours quiet, it’s the low power retune :)

It’s not too complicated :)

Regulator sets plenum pressure, which primarily does two things: First, plenum pressure dictates your maximum velocity if the valve opens completely. Second, it closes the valve. The higher the pressure is, the stronger valve will be kept closed and the faster it’ll close after a shot is fired.

Hammer weight and spring: hammer has to hit the valve open upon shot. The stronger the spring / heavier the hammer and the more the spring gets compressed when cocking the rifle, the harder the hammer hits the valve.

Goal: reg and hammer should be balanced so that there is juuuust enough hammer to open the valve for a strong, short burst of wire needed to get the projectile to the speed you want it at. Typically, that’s around 95-97% of your maximum velocity (velocity where more hammer doesn’t give more speed since valve is already opening completely) but with a plattform like the ghost or others you can shoot different pellet weights with the same reg pressure by way of turning hammer up and down. The “cost” is efficiency and, to some extent, consistency but it’s still worth it. Tune your ghost based on the above for your heaviest pellet (so that the heaviest pellet followed the 95-97% rule) on PW MAX, lighter projectiles can then be dialed to speed with the hammer and you can leave the reg alone. For that to work you probably need a lighter hammer spring than the one you’ll get in the HP since the stronger HP spring doesn’t react much to the power wheel unless your reg pressure is super high. Which in turn will not allow you to shoot lighter pellets.

This is an awesome start and makes it much simpler, thank you sir! I will probably shoot it standard and just mess around for the first week or two and then get into changing out parts. Almost all of my pistols and guns have different triggers, springs, barrels, attachments etc so I don’t see this being any different. I like to get everything perfect to my liking.

Right now I’m leaning towards the 0db 160S or the DonnyFL Ronin or emperor. If anyone has anything negative to say about these speak now or forever hold you peace 😂

No problem!! The trigger is probably the only bad thing about the ghost… but you can get it pretty nice! Look for franklink’s guide on the ghost trigger, it’s totally doable and given your PB experience shouldn’t be a big deal. Makes it 1000 times better!

Airgun Technology Vulcan 3 (500mm) in 22 caliber

Ask Tony @Talon Tunes or Derrick @zx10wall to set it to shoot 18 grains @ 925 FPS. Add a Donny FL Tatsu (M14 x 1.25 end cap)

The rifle will make a slight clicking noise from the hammer slapping forward. Otherwise, it's silent. Plus, you can shoot a variety of heavier pellets and light weight slugs at those settings with minor elevation adjustments.

The other option is watch the classifieds and pick one up for $1,000 - $1,200.

It's a true set it and forget rifle. You can thank me later. 🏁

This is probably going to be one of the first things I do. Can’t stand a mushy or sloppy trigger. What is the main problem with the ghost trigger?! Shoulda probably looked into this before hand but oh well. I’ve completely disassembled HK’s which are notorious for being a PITA. As long as it’s fixable I’ll get it done. That was always one of the first thing I did with my Glocks was trigger stuff. Everything about them I loved outside of the trigger. It was also nice because they were so cheap!

Also just found out the place I bought this ghost from has had some questionable issues over the years as far as bad communication and policies. I will say they shipped extremely quick. Hopefully everything is packaged well and I don’t need to reach out to them. I believe it was Fox Air out of California?! I will be sure to keep the forum up to date with any issues if they arise!

I appreciate the info brother! Unfortunately I impulse bought the ghost hp the same night I made this post lol. I have a problem though so I am sure by the end of the year I will have 10 air guns haha. I will definitely keep your suggestion in mind. I’m also curious if any of the guys here rock springer guns or gas piston?! Wouldn’t mind having one or two of each. Also makes it easy for me to validate a new purchase :)

I have a Donny Tanto and it is fine. More recently I bought a buck rail printed moderator that has steel threads and is segmented so you can add segments to make it quieter or take them off to make it shorter. I use it with only a couple segments on my Prod. Printed moderators are attractive in price and weight but they are more prone to damage than an aluminum tube.

I have a hand disability, what's the trigger like on that and potential lowest weight?

Don’t know the V3 trigger but the U2 trigger - after adjustment - is very light. I’d imagine that Derrick can set the trigger up for exactly to your liking.

Edit: I should probably say that the u2 trigger can be adjusted very light, but does not have to if you don’t want to.
