New guy needing advice/ guidance....

Hello all, new fella here. I plan on buying an FX impact m4 soon but want to have all my ducks in a row first as far as having the ability to re-fill. If I were to buy a GX CS3-I compressor...what other items do I need to get to get (In -line filter)? And what fittings etc do I need to ensure I can hook it up to the Impact? Thanks in advance for any help, I'd appreciate it.

Welcome to the forum encore.

I think a in line filter is much recommended with these little compressors, and i think those often come with all you might need to hook up.
So probable Forster quick connects which is also what the M4 have for filling it

You might consider a larger bottle to fill from, though not fill with little compressor, but say a 6L Carbon fiber bottle, that will give you hours of shooting fun without having to turn on compressor every now and then.
I personally shoot tethered to a 9 L CF bottle, so once settled in at the bench and hooked up, i shoot for hours on end with no need to fill.
In my case i use a 300 BAR bottle and my rifle also handle 300 BAR, from the big bottles valve / fill kit combo i have a 5 foot hose up to the rifle.
I shoot my 9L bottle down to 150 - 170 BAR before i fill it again, so about every 2-3 outings to the range.

The smaller bottle you should be able to top up with the small compressor, but initially i would get it filled at a dive shop the #1 time, i also did with mine though shop only filled to 200 BAR but i have a big 4 CYL compressor to take care of the rest in minites ( 100 L/h )
With your smaller compressor you might want to keep a eye on the temperatures, maybe split up the top of in 2 runs

Shooting .177 myself i have plenty of air in my 9L bottle, i will guestimate about a day of constantly shooting at least, a outing for me at least in the better / warmer part of the year is easy 8 hours and at least 1000 shots during that time.

I will leave the rest to the guys with actual experience running these little compressors.

Thanks for the insight peashooter.yes I'm considering a bottle as well as there is a dive shop near me. I'm a total newbie to the PCP world and didn't even know you could tether a rifle to a bottle, it makes total sense for bench shooting. Actually I'm wondering if a bottle may be the way to go starting out,and not even have to worry about a compressor to start with. Like I said I'm just trying to get all my ducks in a row before I even order the Impact

Make sure to go and speak with the dive shop to make sure they will and can fill it with their adpaters or you'll have to bring an adapter.

Greetings, glad you're here. Diehard Yong Heng fan myself but GX-CS compressors have many loyal supporters. Not sure of price difference but GX-CS4 adds a water cooling component which might not be needed right now, just don't want to be kicking yourself in future if acquiring a 4500psi SCBA tank. Searching "GX-CS4," in archives, upper right page corner, can help with filter choices. Not sure on M4 but many purchased this indispensable adapter for M3 due to difficult connecting with OEM adapter. Best of Luck, WM

I've had a Yong Heng about 4 years and a retired firemans bottle almost as long. The combination works great. I run the Yong Heng about once a month to refill the bottle. Takes half an hour or less. I have an extra moisture filter on the YH but the color changing dessicant rarely changes color so it is not getting a lot of moisture. Venting every 5 minutes and the stock filter are apparently getting almost all the moisture.

I just got a GX CS2 and have done two gun fills with it so far. I have to say it is surprisingly nice to use comparted to the YH. I don't stay in the same room as the YH because of noise. I come back every 5 minutes to vent and check on the compressor. I have no issue standing beside the CS2 for the three minutes or so it takes to refill one of my guns. I think part of it is that the noise level is less and part of it is the type of noise is less objectionable. I still don't plan to refill mainly from the CS2, I plan to keep using my bottle when at home but I can see how people could just use one of these smaller compressors. I don't know how much air the gun you plan holds, it might take 5 minutes to refill. A bottle would take maybe 15 seconds. But after a dozen or so full fills (to 250 bar) my bottle will only do partial fills. The compressor will always do a full fill including to 300 bar. So there are advantages both ways. I am just using the stock and "extra" filter that came with my CS2. No signs of moisture so far (filter is still dry).

I believe a CS3 has the same compressor inside as the CS2 but adds an auto shutoff and probably some other things. The CS4 is a little bigger, 350W instead of 250W, and adds water cooling. I got the CS2 because my biggest projected need is for when I am not at home and it is the most compact and light. I don't trust an auto shutoff anyway so not having one doesn't bother me. I've added battery power for my CS2 so I can power it from my vehicle, 120V, or a battery. There is also a CS2 that comes with a Makita style 18V battery. I believe a CS4 is rated to charge a 6.9 liter bottle like I have but the CS5 is suggested for bigger bottles. But users report using compressors as small as my CS2 to fill bottles by breaking it up into a series of 10 minute runs plus half an hour or so resting. So many things are possible. But refilling my bottle with a CS4 would take about an hour, at least. Significantly longer than the YH. But it would not be so noisy doing it.

Lots of options but fortunately lots of good ones too. My CS2 had everything needed to use it in the box including a dead head so I could test it before filling a gun. I bought it from the GX website and it seems to have shipped to me in about a week. It was made in 2022 according to a tag that was on it. I only paid $250 for it. The price on the GX website was $278 (still is) and I applied their 10% off code (which is right on the website). Something simple and relatively inexpensive would get you started and still be useful later if you decide you want to "upgrade".

A 12 L big bottle at 300 BAR will take you for a lot of shooting hours for sure, i did that before i got my own compressor, and the bottle lasted me a month or so. ( mind i shoot .177 so not a air guzzling caliber )
Viking airgunner ( on youtube ) use to fill my bottle for me CUZ no Danish dive shop will go near 300 BAR bottles for some reason, they sell then fine but not fill them.

Me and "VA" live in the same little town, only a good mile or so between us.

Of course me shooting little .177 and long rifles i can get away with very little shooting / regulated pressures, my favorite 13 grain slugs i shoot at 80 - 85 BAR, to shoot 16 grain slugs i up that to 100 - 110 BAR.

Pellet fun with 10 grain or so, the MIN REG pressure i can get of 56 BAR is on the very high end of things, that little air will shot a hell of a lot of shots, laser accurate to 55 M or so, and within that any fly that dare to land and rest its wings, is in mortal danger.

didn't even know you could tether a rifle to a bottle
Thats no problem, but you of course have to be careful connecting a 200 or 250 BAR rifle to a 300 BAR fresh filled bottle, so i have a 200 BAR rifle i will either shoot on my old 12 L 200 BAR steel bottle, or from my 300 BAR CF bottle when it have been shot down to a safe pressure for that old rifle.

There are also inline regulators you could deploy, but i am on a limited pension so i will not go there, just be vigilant of rifle MAX pressure and what you have in your bottle.

BTW many shooters even if they have 300 BAR rifles will not fill them to that MAX. that’s also just fine just give you fewer shots on a fill if you do that, but tethered no shot count problem.

I just can not keep track of my shots when i fill and disconnect, so suddenly i will sit there and bitch and moan about my rifle suddenly shooting bad, which is only natural when you have low pressure on a unregulated rifle or have fallen below the pressure your regulator is set to CUZ one of those can not regulate what it do not have, and so things get " strange "

I do close my big bottle valve when i go to change papers or do other things, but some times i will let the connected pressurized fill hose sit for a day or two in my living room to check if there is a leak in that somewhere, of course bottle also closed then or it would just constantly be refilling and indicator will be hard to spot a micro leak.

This old video from last fall have my setup in view, 6L bottle on floor in DIY tank / Ammo / tool bag, tether to rifle ASO.

Lots of good advice here. I suggest the least complicated approach to get started. Talk to the folks at your dive shop about their filling requirements (proper connectors and DOT approved tank) and then buy a 9 liter carbon fibre tank. Use the tank to fill your new M4 but do not consider tethering until you're willing to spend the extra money to purchase an external regulator.

Buy the extended Foster fitting as as advised by Worriedman. I have an Impact MK II and the fitting is indispensable.

Shoot. Have fun - gain experience. At some time in the future, consider buying a Compressor/Filter system capable of "topping off" your 9L tank.

Yes I'm grateful for all the advice and info, I think I've settled on the GX CS3-I for the air supply. As for the rifle I am no longer considering the FX M4 , I'm seeing far too many issues with them. Way too many quality issues for something costing $2000+ and I refuse to spend that kind of money and feel like I'm "rolling the dice" as to getting a good product or not. Oddly enough you don't see that on the YouTube vids, only that they are the best latest greatest end all do all...😏. So, the search continues, gathering info on the Reximex Throne Gen 2 now but not dead set on it. I'm sure with the help from the fine folks here I will come up with something soon.

Enjoy owning several FX airguns but switched to AGT for simpler, more robust designs, better value. Purchased these two at end of 2022, both .30 700mm, after shooting side-by-side, Uragan 2 gets the nod. Smoother, quieter operation with balanced valve technology lessening ammo fussiness, I've no problem recommending. WM

Only issue I've have with the Throne 2 is it is a little underpowered. Digging around here it appears the ports are a bit smallish.

I'll probably open mine on my .25 to ~6mm
