New guy needing help on first gun

I am brand new to the pcp world. I am looking to buy my first gun. I have a 4500psi tank already. I am looking to spend no more then 1500 for a gun, scope, mounts and fill houses etc. I have been looking at lots of guns, tons of reviews and I am overwhelmed with good and negative reviews. The guns that I am looking into is of course the marauder, new brocock, can't remember the name, daystate huntsmen and the fx streamline. I am well aware the streamline is not out yet but what I have read, should be a nice gun. I am looking for a gun that i can plink in the yard with but go out and hunt as well. Of course I want accuracy, well built, and one that will last a long time. Also I believe.22 is what I will go with. Any help would be great

If you didn't have a tank, I'd have recommended a Marauder. If you get a good factory barrel, they shoot just as well as guns costing much more. If you're unlucky with the factory barrel and want to upgrade, for around $200 more you can get a hammer forged Marmot Militia barrel. The wood stocked versions are kind of heavy, but so are many higher priced guns. They're easy to work on and there is a ton of info on various tunes and mods, so if you like to tinker, a Marauder may be for you. I just spent a few minutes popping eggs at 65-85 yards with my Gen 1 .22 Marauder, that put a smile on my face! I fill with scuba tanks and have my guns detuned for lower fill pressure and power.
If you want to go to the next level, take a look at the BSA R10, it has a regulator for consistent velocity, a great barrel and sexy Walnut stock. I've been eyeing them myself but am not ready to go there as of yet.
The Brocock seems to be well received, I haven't shot one myself.
Give FX's recent QC issues on their new guns, I'd personally wait till the Streamline has some owner feedback before I went that route, even though the package looks attractive from what I've seen on the web. Not sure what the actual price on the Streamline will look like?
Good luck, and a word of warning, this stuff is addictive!
John
PS-I recommend Joe B. from Airtanks For Sale for your fill set up, he's not the cheapest but he knows his stuff and it will work right!

As always if you need a recommendation for a rifle I say you need to give us as much information about what you want do with the rifle. You say you want to hunt with it but what kind of game do you want to hunt. The game you hunt and hunting method will help determine the power level needed, the accuracy, shot count, the caliber and other needs. Plinking has other desirable needs like shot count and possibly being a quiet shooter being a plus. Bill

"Eatonchief"I am talking small game. Rabbits, squirrels etc. the r10 is a very nice gun but I would like a silencer/moderator what ever there called
Eatonchief for rabbits and squirrels the rifles you have choose are very good choices. You don't need a power house of a air rifle to take those critters. Accuracy would be of prime importance. For hunting and stalking for squirrels I like a light and short rifle for walking around in the woods. The shot count that those rifles deliver will definitely be adequate for a days hunt. Those rifles come with either an moderator or shroud so the rifles report should be minimal. Of the three rifles you have considered I like the Daystate Huntsman Regal XL .22 cal as it is only 6.5 lbs and 40" long with the moderator. Although the rifle is not regulated the 'Harper' sling shot hammer yields a very nice shot count and very good power curve. Have you seen this rifles review at 'Straight Shooters'. with a starting fill lever of either 3000 or 3300 psi they got a shot count of 30 to 40 shots within 20 fps. That is great performance for that size air tube. Bill

There is a 22 cal hw100 in the AGN classified with a Gary cane custom for $800 shipped. You will not find a better deal for a quality pcp(made in Germany). The video in the description show its very accurate. HW100 is pretty quiet, has a great trigger and you can find many custom parts if you like to tinker/tune.

I do not know the seller but if I was in the market for a 30 fpe 22 that would be my choice. If you use paypal and there is a problem your covered. I would also ask if it holds a charge(air) before buying.

Totally new eh?

"my" pick's,

Marauder. Crosman does have THE best customer support, period. If that might be important to you ( warrenty/repair/parts & such). And the best trigger you can get under $1,000. The .177 would meet your hunting needs. The ,25 would make you smile. And not that "I" care but they are quite.

Used AA rifle ( from before they went to the 20mm shroud & lesser trigger.

The BSA ( get the correct model) is generally a know good shooter. NOT always fun to work on, but not so bad,

FX Streamline, NO way, not for a new guy, you may not want a totally brand new release just in case it has bugs.

Can you get to any airgun shoot? That would allow you to try several different pre-charged and you might find a deal there.

If wantimg to shoot & shoot & shoot w/out issue, and if an issue of any kind with the rig came up a replacement no questions asked back in your hands in 4 days. Your only choice is crosman/Benjamin.

Shoot what some others own if at all possible.

John

I am still on my first PCP, which is a Marauder. I viewed it as a learning gun. Eventually I'll get something different, not necessarily better, but different.

Things to watch for in a first rifle,

1. Weight. These are pellet guns, and recoil isn't an issue. If it were a 30-06, a heavier gun might make a difference, but with no recoil, go as light as you can afford.
2. Bolt Pull. That's one thing I don't like about the Marauder. It's a very heavy bolt pull. I'd like a gun with lighter cocking mechanism
3. Obviously, accuracy. Can't go wrong with most reputable air rifles. I was shooting dime groups yesterday with a Gen 2 Marauder, and when it missed, either I pulled the shot or was getting low on air.

4. Trigger - read the reviews and get the best trigger for your purpose. Hunting needs a bit heavier trigger with bench rest a light trigger will do.

5. If you can get a regulated gun, that's better than just a valved gun. They tend to be a bit more, but I'd like to have a regulator, but don't.

If you want a learning gun to decide what to get in your "Real" gun, get a Benjamin Maximus. Click through the banner on the top of the page and use code AGNATION for a 25% discount, and someone said that Thursdays or Fridays are free shipping. It's $220 on the web site, - 25% is $165 in your hands and ready to shoot. Since you already have a bottle, refilling is no problem. and they shoot the Crossman Premier pellets fantastically.

Shoot it for a while and develop a list of your own criteria, then start looking for the gun(s) of your dreams. Just a thought as that's my style.

By the way, the Marauder has a good trigger, shoots well, and is inexpensive to operate. Bolt pull and weight are about the only things I don't like about it. Saving for an FX Impact at the moment, but by the time I save the $$, it might not even be available. It's several years away so my decision could change!
