New guy with M17 ASP

Hi all,

I’m new to air guns and new to the forum. I recently purchased a Sig M17 ASP and just shot it for the first time today.

Does anyone have experience to share with this pistol? I did a lot of reading before I bought it, but I know I still have much to learn.

After about 40 rounds fired, I started getting misfires, then a pellet jammed in the barrel. Is this typical? I put a little oil on the co2 cartridge before loading it. I’m using RWS Superdome 8.3 grain. Do I need to switch up pellets?

Thanks, and I’m glad to be here!

I had a previous version, the P226.

WHEN...I could get the gun to pierce the C02 cartridge, it fed 100% and shot, sorta ok. The barrel was a little loose in the frame, so I took it apart to 1. tighten the barrel in the frame, and 2. try to get the valve to pierce the cartridge.

While It wasn't too big a deal to snug up the barrel and did a good job of tightening the groups nicely, I wasn't able to get the damn thing to put a hole in the cartridge reliably. I've been meaning to melt it into a blob with my torch, but I haven't done it yet..! There may still be a way to fix the valve problem.

Many of these guns are pellet diameter sensitive. And you can see if you look on the containers, it seems that there is three (or four) different .177" pellet diameters. Always look before you buy, for the smallest diameter, .177" I've not had any problem shooting the Meisterkugeln, .177's in ANY of my guns. Plus it seems that they are pretty accurate in most guns.

Good luck with yours.

Thanks for the response. I’ve only gone through one co2 cartridge so far, but it pierced that one ok. I will try the pellets you prefer next. I’m not going to stress too much yet. I figure I’ll make sure it’s broken in first. After my warranty runs out I will probably try tightening up the barrel. I did see a thread on that on here when I searched. That and opening some ports up, I think.

I'd run lighter pellets to start like 7.0gr RWS Hobby or Basic or 7.0gr Meisterkugeln pistol. Maybe even 6.9gr RWS Super-H.

Be advised SIG may not have parts for their airguns nor offer repair help aside from trading out guns if they have a replacement toti actually swap and outside of warranty SOL too bad and they don't appear to be too customer friendly. If it's a dud go and request for a free shipping label from the seller and get a refund.

If you are daring to void your warranty then no returns...

My second session was more successful. Watching some of those YouTube videos helped. I’m surprised how far you have to push the pellets into the clip. Apparently they may not have been seated deep enough.
I also lubed the magazine and made sure to give a bit of a pause between shots. I shot 80 rounds with one CO2 canister and only had one pesky pellet that wouldn’t fire.
