New Hatsan 150

Bought a Hatsan 150, I shot about 25 pellets through it, then did a barrel clean to get all the factory gunk out. I had noticed a very mininal increase in power, and an increase in accuracy after cleaning. That was going to be the only cleaning until I felt the accuracy was dropping. After about 5-7 shots, the chamber blew up on me. The O-ring flew out, and there was some smelly smoke. The pellet that I loaded into the chamber didn't go anywhere -- it actually moved backwards a bit and was tilted. The sliding part of the barrel (the bolt slide) feels like it loosened a bit after that. It doesn't secure as snug as it used to, and it slides around more freely. I popped the O-ring back in, shot about 15 more pellets. I don't think it lost any power or accuracy. It still penetrates the same as before. I'm thinking perhaps the pellet fell backwards a bit when I shut the chamber, and maybe some oils blew up due to the high pressure in there. I hope it didn't cause any damage.

I had some silicone oil that I used a tiny amount applied to a patch, then pulled through the barrel. After that, I pulled a few dry patches through, and wiped up any manufacturer oils I could see. I think the pellet must have gotten stuck in the chamber and didn't allow the pressure to release. Perhaps some residual oils on the seal blew up? I really don't know. And I really don't know what the best oil to use would be. I get mixed results on the web. I used what I had -- and it was very very conservative. Like I said, it fired several shots just fine after the cleaning. But when it blew up, the pellet was still in the chamber. Oh well. I just hope no serious damage happened. I really want to avoid shipping charges etc etc... When I get home, I'll shoot some more -- then decide what to do.
