HW/Weihrauch New HW35E on the way!

Tell my wife that next time she’s buying jewelry or a purse. Henry Ford had the same opinion. Somewhere the automobile got flashy. The new 30/50 do nothing for me looks wise. To me everything is a balancing act. Function and looks are important.
You will love your HW35E. A true classic and a gorgeous airgun. It is really designed for iron sights with the drop on the comb. I would highly recommend a diopter. They are a blast. When you set it down to take a breather, just look at it and admire.View attachment 369010
I totally agree with your comment about the diopter. I set mine up that way as soon as it came in. I just wish I had gotten a slightly earlier model with the finger groove stock vs the checkered forearm.

Form follows function. There’s a reason for the “awkward” latching system on the 35E. Terms like “heavy” and “better” and “pretty” are subjective and it’s really a matter of how it suits you AND your intended purpose. I’ve seen Ron post many times that his 97K is his most accurate springer. It’s heavier and longer and much less manageable than his HW50. But in a 50 yard bench rest shootout for your life I bet the 97 would be in the bench and not the 50 ha ha ha. I love all of mine. They’re all different and many times which one I choose depends on what I’m doing. My advice is to keep buying and testing. Keep the ones that suit you, ditch the rest. I’ll PM you my address :D

Edit: I would LOVE to put open sights on my 35E if I can figure out how to get this **&$@# muzzle brake off. Should have been attached with grub screw. Nope. Suspect someone bonded it on. Grrrrr. Might be some Dremel action happening this weekend.

Post a picture of the muzzle. I would try heat. Most epoxies melt back to their original liquid state under heat.

Thanks, BoG and bf1956. Will post a pic up when I get a chance. To be clear, I don’t care whether the muzzle brake survives. I have a LDC Im going to put on that I can use with front sight attached. Gun isn’t shooting well and have a suspicion the muzzle brake might be an issue. Want to shoot with irons and see if it’s the gun or the optics. Plus I don’t like it. Sharp edges and I don’t need the extra length to cock it. Tried tapping it off and all it did was bugger up the edge of the brake so it’s on there tightly however its attached. Just hoping the finish hasn’t been marred.

I will agree that if I had to do a 50 yard shoot out I would be using my 97. It is the easiest airgun I have to shoot accurately at that range and it's because of the extra weight. But I don't enjoy shooting it for long sessions because of the weight either. I hardly use it. I shoot my 177 30s and 50 at least ten times more. I have a blast plinking with them all the way out to 100 yards. We all have different priorities.

I totally agree. I'm not saying and never have that anyone's choice isn't good for them. I simply state facts about weights, design and functionality. Whether people like what they hear or not, is on them. Facts are facts. I'm not responsible for their choices or emotional biases.

If it's a metal muzzle weight slowly heating it up with a Propane torch will break down two part epoxies and most other bonding agents before discoloring the barrel. Steady twisting pressure should break the bond when it gets to temp.

If the brake is delrin it maybe a press fit. They can be knocked off but there's a good chance of damaging the brake in the process. If you were ready to dremel it this probably doesn't bother you anyway. Have at it.

Be well
Ron

Honestly. Nice wood doesn't matter much to me. I'm a very pragmatic person. Function matters to me more than form. There's nothing a Hw35 does for me that the 50 doesn't. Nice wood doesn't print targets or kill pests. Frankly looks are fashion and not a sensible reason to buy a gun.

If you choose to buy something because it looks nicer to you, that's fine. Don't claim it is better based on looks. In reality better is determined by results. Fashion is ever changing and subjective. There's never been a 35 I thought looked good enough to overcome it's awkward barrel release and especially it's extra weight.

People often mix emotions and technical applications. The two are exclusive entities.
Wait are you SPOCK FROM THE STAR SHIP enterprise We are human. you have a. Tendency to come across a little clinical without compassion or give a poop

I apologize if that's the way I come across. I don't mean any harm. I'm sincerely trying to provide valuable and unbiased information to benefit the AGN community.

Yeah Guys ..... all's I have to say is that I use my two HW50S's the most of any gun I own - besides the RAW's right now:).

So when it comes right down to it - What's THE most practical Weihrauch Airgun ? - Likely the HW50S.

The HW35E is still may favorite Weihrauch ...:)

Lol it ok. 99.9 Percent of the time the information you provide

on this form is very helpful. Thank you for that. And I think we all can be a little Opinionated at times I know I sure can . please keep posting

So... Sidetracking the thread is providing valuable and unbiased information?

Congrats on the new gun Sekiar.
I apologize to Sekiar. It certainly wasn't my intention to side track or hijack the thread. This derailed when I responded to Sekiar's request for a cocking effort comparisons between his 30, 50 & the incoming 35. I added facts about power and weight that weren't asked for but are of general interest when comparing rifles. Then it was suggested that the HW35E was a much prettier rifle and had I seen one I'd have a greater appreciation of the rifle.

By this point I had forgotten that the thread was about the joyful event of receiving a new rifle. That's were I was terribly wrong. Being a technical person I objected to fashion or form be valued over function. Then well meaning people who had Sekiar's feeling's in mind and possibly a bias towards the 35 jumped in to debunk my personal function over form credo. Not remembering the threads purpose I defended my statements in great detail.

Yes. I sidetracked the thread. For that I sincerely apologize to Sekiar. It wasn't my intention. The whole thing went squirrelly fast and it's all my fault for defending my argument instead of remembering Sekiar's feelings.

Again my apologies to all and especially Sekiar.

Yes, congratulations on the new rifle. I'm sure you'll love it.

Thank you Ron for taking responsibility. Grace be given to anyone who makes things right. We all do this from time to time. I just recently did it on another forum. We go through things in our personal life and it is very easy to vent sometimes when we’re not looking directly at someone. Let’s exercise some forgiveness.

Not to hijack this thread, but everyone should express their opinions as long as it's done respectfully :).

Ron is certainly one of the most knowledgeable/giving tuners on AGN and the GTA ...
I'm always interested in what he thinks or has come across in the process of tuning.

Keep up your good work(y).

I've just ordered a new HW35E today to go with my three HW30S and HW50S and was wondering what the cocking effort of the HW35E compared to the other two? To me the HW50S is only a bit more than the HW30S's. No big deal just wondering while waiting on delivery. Charles
Well did you get the 35 yet. If so do you like it. And is the wood good looking. I am a sucker for pretty wood I always felt that a flintlock with extra curly maple was great. Please post pics
