New Maverick Hammer

My new Maveric VP 600mm .25cal incoming from SPAW has a 13g weight as per an email from Ken. I'm fine with this I guess since I intend to use 33gr slugs or so but isnt the stock weight 11g? What is the weight of the power kit [hammer] then or are there other differences in that? No extra spring of any difference comes with that I don't see.
Many Thanks,
13g is standard for .25 and .30 in the standard configuration. No "power kit" spring needed.
The 13g hammer could easily give you the power and accuracy out to 100+yds with your stock gun using pellets, or, slugs to 33-37gr, give or take. A slug liner could be of benefit in the upper ranges of slug weights. My M3 .25 600 is tuned with the KO 33.95 to 980 and no complaints.

Enjoy your time...
Patrick

Let me get this straight, you are anticipating the need to change the stock setup to push a 33gr slug to some speed so it works? Hint, IMHO no need. I'm pushing 26 gr. RMR slugs at 50ft#, I'm pushing 33.95 gr pellets at....50ft#, 107 rear, my HSA is almost all the way in, and my SD is 2.7 60+ shots. PW is at 7. Oh I've got a Maverick VP also.

Good luck with that one. That is one Rabbit Hole® I've exited from. 😁

Really I'm not going for big power. The most I could get out of it so far with the 7g hammer is 37 fpe. Im going to order the 11g from fx also . That could be the sweet spot. Mine has 0 upgrades so far and the next will be a 300cc carbon bottle then the CF shroud. Then done. 🤣

I emailed FX when I got my Maverick Sniper and said I wanted the heavier hammer weight, and they sent me the 11gram/ 25cal version for free. I have it in there right now and it has no problems shooting up to 68-foot pounds. It's a lot more versatile than the one it came with.

Holy crap , I put in an order to buy the 11g hammer yesterday. And just checked my email and it's on its way. No charge !

Absolutely the best customer service I've ever experienced.

The 11g is what most people would need in a .22 or .25. That will run all those middle weight slugs at speeds up to 1000 FPS without much effort in most cases. Now if you have a compact and are trying to push some of the higher middle weights to those speeds, then you are probably looking at higher 2nd reg pressures and then maybe are looking at the 13g version. If I remember correctly, my 11g hammer basically maxed out at somewhere around 147 BAR on the 2nd reg. Way more than enough power unless you are trying to be one of the youtube kings.....

I took mine apart to weigh the hammer, Ken said it shipped with a 13g but it was 11. I put in the Huma 13.11 that had ordered along with their power spring. I was getting low 840's 30gr pellets with how the regs were shipped, 140/110 and for some reason no consistancy, wild flucuations in velocity. Made the first reg 175 best that I could tell and the final one 145ish. Now 30gr H&N's are 928fps with 2 fps spread. 33.5gr NSA slugs are 868fps. Also have a 14g hammer that was part of the kit to try. As it is now just a 57 ft•lbs setup. Hoping to get 65+. 600mm barrel,
25. cal. Maybe all it can get?

Probably way too much hammer. Mine is still on the heavy hammer side at 125Bar and maxed out it slows down fps a little. I would try again with the Huma hammer and the factory spring.

Returning this Maverick for service. No power. No consistancy. I had it yesterday at 928fps with 13g Huma hammer and Huma spring. 225bar fill. Today, pick it up, same ammo, same settings-- got 700fps. You can even hear the difference, it isn't the chrony. No zing to it at all. I returned it to all factory, spring and 11g hammer it came with, power wheel maxed with 7 displayed on the bottom and got 600. 30gr pellets.

I didnt touch the adjust screw, just turning the dial. If I dial down to 5 the speeds go lower so the wheel works, not like it couldn't.
Set first reg to 170 or so second final reg is 145ish on the dial, only ever unscrewing ref adjustment screws and degassed gun when screwing in the brass screw for the final reg.

Apparently that little washer on the hammer is important as I saw the very low velocities I had this afternoon with the stock spring and hammer was actually without it. 😲

I installed it (the washer) on the Huma hammer and their power spring and got the following speeds off a start 230bar fill--

H&N 30gr pellets:
917 948 919 931 916 935 923 929 908 917 924 920

Pressure just under 200bar, switched to NSA 33.5gr slugs:

833 853 876 846 856

Back to H&N 30gr pellets:

918 914 916 907 902 907 926 913, stop. Pressure shows 180bar

Think I finally found the combo for my gun- -
Dual port transfer,
Huma power spring, the 14g Huma hammer and pin probe, power wheel with 7 on the dial- -
A 30.86gr H&N left barrel at 1017 and again at 1016fps. Yay. Fast I know, would dial that down to get accuracy if it was an issue.
The NSA slugs 33.5gr were 983 and 978fps. 71 ft•lbs.

Shot count would suffer but this is a hunting rig not a plinker. I kinda knew that stepping into the ring. Took 5 days of tearing it down to change springs and hammer weights along with changing the regs to 175/145.

I will probably get numbers from what the pellet transfer port yeilds but fairly certain I'll stay with this hammer and spring and pin probe.

Bit puzzled by the final sentence but I’ve played around with all of the hammers trying to sling large slugs from a wildcat BT, which is the same setup as the Maverick. I bought a power spring from Huma and found that using that spring with lighter hammer (14.5G; also from Huma) produced a much better ES vs. using the standard spring with a Tungsten hammer. In addition, the hammer strike with Tungsten yielded a horrible high pitched ping which I couldn’t live with. Of course, YMMV.

I can agree with the high pitch ping Last spring I changed the hammer spring and hammer to tungsten and just cased the gun until today WTH that ping is horrendous. you would think in this advanced polymers that the could be a high density plastic that could be a buffer.
