New member Bots or AI making themselves active members...

Before participating in an old but resurrected thread... Anyone else noticing the trend of brand new AGN members resurrecting old threads with fairly benign comment's to the thread? In the past it wasn't prevalent, and the member/user's doing this were not new and were legitimately seeking help or information. Now, not so much.

well i see many old threads coming back to life that should have been started from a fresh date
the old thread should have a time period that when they reach it, they get archived but still in the library
i have answered some new question on an old thread but it makes me wonder what is going on
Ya know I would fully support this. If a thread hasn't been responded to for 6 months or a year it could be locked to replies. Then a new post can be made referencing the original thread if necessary.
I've noticed what the OP mentions once or twice. I figured it was someone trying to get to the Classifieds fast. Never considered AI bots on the site. Guess it is possible.

Every once in a while I will just comment to resurrect a thread that has pertinent Info in it, as a passive agressive helping hand to a flood of the same questions and highlight the search feature .

Actually, I think it is BS; why is it;.because people need to think more, like think, write, or ask something to start a New thought process; OK, it may be an old thought, but make it new!!
Redundant is ok if it is asked in a new way. Who said this great quote," Tell them what you are going to tell them, then tell them, then tell them what you told them" ?

A lot of us have done this to keep track of a thread, save, or update, or spead knowledge for whatever reason, myself included. But what I see and the education am trying to get through with this thread is that there are brand new 'members' renewing odd threads with responses that don't quite relate or are general and seem bot or ai generated, and that we all need to help keep this activity in check. By educating members who don't know about this type of stuff, and how it is done or exists, will help them gain knowledget o report it to the AGN administrators so the administrator's can keep ithese things check. The more our members know about these things the better.

New air rifles, new users, new (old) questions.
Add in the desire to get to ten posts with minimal or no effort and there you go.
I think some get too worked up about something as simple as a resurrected post. It's not like there are thousands of posts per day here.
As physically demanding as it may be, scroll past what you don't want to read.

Agreed. Why get ruffled now? It's always been the same exact content and questions at the root. I've been in the airgun hobby long enough to realize that the more the gear changes the more the questions stay the same.

I retired after 29 years in law enforcement in a blue collar, very busy, city of about 40,000 people. Hard working, hard drinking, hard fighting citizens.
When I interviewed for my now part time job as school security at a high school the principal interviewing me asked how I'd respond to a student getting under my skin? I smiled and said that students wouldn't get under my skin. Nine years and so far I've been correct.
I don't sweat the small stuff.

This is funny. When I think of all the times a newbie asks a question and someone responds with "google is your friend" "look it up" and when they do people complain. lol
There's a fine line between avoiding spoon feeding and teaching how to learn, and brushing off the new guys. I got it too at first and then ended up surpassing those guys for experiences.

I actually like seeing old threads brought back up. There's usually something new to be learned.

Sometimes a post from a well-respected but deceased member is part of it, and that makes it almost like visiting with them again. We may pass, but our words will live on (until the forum gets hacked)...

Then there are the people that like to complain about it. It seems to me that they could load up their ban list with those that commit thread resurrection and call it good. That way they can become their own little moderators! How cool will that be?

Cheers,

J~

Counselling¿?¿ For WHAT? Having a rewarding hobby that gives outlet to creativity. Perhaps then sharing your experience? Socializing as well. Fellowship is good for most of us. Maybe it keeps one off the streets and out of the bars and jail. I hope so, after being on sleep release for 24 years. This helps me get out of the corrections mode. 5 years and still dealing with it. Be Well Brothers, 'dito. PS. I meant I worked 24 years in corrections and retired almost five. PTSD is alive and well in corrections. The negativity sucks you in. It is hard to notice it is happening. B.
