Thanks, in Alabama for deer it is .30 cal. and larger.
Just a thought and only saying this because recommended for a small deer is 100fpe. I'm shooting .30 cal 60gn at 120fpe at the muzzle but at 100 yards that drops down to 90 fpe. Just me personally if you're thinking of deer I'd get a .357 or else you're definitely limiting your range.
If I get drawn for deer tags next year I will be picking up a .357...just a thought

I limit my head shots to 40 yards.

I prefer my 5 under $500 airguns to my one $1400 airgun but I like them all. If you got a 30 caliber Gauntlet or M60B you could also get a 22 caliber Bullshark and still spend less than one "high end gun". Or get 2 M60b guns, one big one small caliber. Even 177 works well for squirrels and 22 and 25s a little better. So you can use them for practice and small game and save the "big gun" for when. You need the power (and noise and cost).
