My name is Brandon, and I am a retired sheriff's detective living in Riverside County, Southern California.

I have been shooting air rifles and firearms since I was 10 years old. Recently, I gave my Gamo .22 caliber springer rifle to my brother, as he was dealing with an invasion of tree squirrels on his property.

I am looking to buy my first PCP rifle as soon as possible. I recently moved to a new house with an acre lot that is plagued by gophers and a few rats behind my barn.

Additionally, I will assist my friends with their dairy farms in managing their vermin and pigeon pest problems so I believe a PCP rifle would be the best effective tool to use.

Welcome, if you haven't heard it yet High Pressure Air is one of the first things you need to figure out how to get a supply.
Being an x sherif you may know some firefighters that could help you out as long as you have a DOT certified SCBA with a current inspection tank.

Hope you like coffee . Your going to need plenty to read all the info you ask for (and even some you don't )
If you ask me i would say to start simple IE: a Marauder . single shot , they mostly do not break , if it happens simple to fix . And they "can
' be hand pumped , till you find a source that can fill a high pressure tank or you buy a compressor . sometimes a Fire station can or will ?

One thing...be careful, this hobby can be...addictive and expensive !

Welcome brother, not sure of budget, consider a taipan vet 2 without the anti double load going new for 13-1400. If the anti double loads are not an issue for you, this is a steal. If this is too rich for your tastes, there are some other options.

Or a $200 Yong Heng compressor, $150-$225 3L or 6.8L tank and valve from AliExpress and $650 Reximex Throne 2 from Krale and be a VERY happy camper with very dead pests.

Everything the Huben/FX/AGT etc rifles can do for around $1,000 for the whole setup. $500-$1000 Less than just the high end rifle.
