New Owner of Texas SS .30 questions

When I was installing the slugs in the chamber yesterday the seemed to slide in easy. I didn’t have very successful groupings. I have .30 75 grain slugs. I have several different kinds coming. Any pointers you have on this gun would be greatly appreciated. New out of the box. Thanks, Oakenhawk.

I took 3rd in the Big Bore challenge at EBR this year shooing my .308 Texan, for credentials.

You’re using the wrong size slugs. Your using .300 slugs, you need .308 slugs. 8 thou makes all the difference. Also, you might consider upping the slug weight. Typically, I shoot 155 gr.

Agree with Adijorio. I shoot 110-115 gr. sized to .309 with good results but I also have just as good of consistency with the 150-ish gr. bullets (just not as flat shooting for hunting and more crucial to range the target) All cast/sized at home.

A Texan is in .308. If you are shooting .30 slugs this will happen.

Which Bigbore division did you take 3rd? Was it with the Long version?

Production class. Yes, gen 1 long version.

Not only are the .30 bullets too small as mentioned, but they can tumble, causing clipping if you have a moderator, which an SS does. It can break the internal washers. This causes horrible accuracy.

Widen the baffles also. I widened mine to like 30% and had no difference in muzzle report.
