New Proposed Texas Airgun Hunting Rule News

Well it appears that the Hatsan Hercules in .45 cal. would be the only reasonably priced rifle a Texas airgunner can use for whitetail deer this season. This gun is so heavy I would need a trailer to get it in the woods. Not sure I am that excited about killing a deer with an airgun. I guess I'll just use a powder burner.

Where did you figure that out from? The Air Force Texans are in the same price range as the hatsan. The Sam Yangs are less, close to half if you pick one up used. Of course this assumes the rule passes this time.

I had an Air force gun once and I really didn't like the way it shot. Sam Yangs are borderline in getting to the fps and foot pounds. The new Crossman TC45 is a good light weight gun that will work. It generates 275ft lbs with a 166 gr. projectile, and is 45cal.

One problem that *might* come up is how enforcement is going to occur. Some guns will be real world qualified but advertised to be less than 215fpe Others will be advertised as enough but will actually be borderline. For example, the .308 Texan is advertised at 300fpe, but most shot strings average 200fpe. Attempting to chrony the gun can be fraught with peril. Just think about your own chrony experiences trying to get accurate numbers in your own hands. Now imagine a non-airgunning LEO in the field, who has probably never used a chrony before, trying to check your gun at daylight or dark, with whether you get written up or not based upon his results. Your first shots, your most powerful ones at that, might read as error, and he may end up basing the number on shot 5 or 7 and not give you the option to refill before shooting. That would be a big enforcement mess.
About the best thing they can handle for enforcement purposes is to treat the requirements as a guideline and only pop someone if they're using something that's obviously not close to spec.

The 30 caliber Texan rifle 34 inch barrel not the SS or carbine can easily do 215 foot pounds with a 118 grain bullet at 906 FPS = 215 ft lbs
Texas was using a 120 grain bullet in the taking of the two deer with a 30 cal Texan rifle 34 inch barrel
Their is no designation where it must equal the 215 foot pounds 1/2 inch or 100 yards Texas Has made it very easy to meet the 215 foot pounds with 30 caliber or larger caliber

The country's oldest and most established hunting infrastructure and is prime
like no other to welcome untold numbers of air gun hunters. It is likely to be the
hole in the dam we have all been waiting for. We have the power to determine
our future now not the industry but us as individuals can lead the way simply
through example. Others will follow and long held perceptions will begin to change.
Africa has its big five, no reason now why air gunners in the US cant do the same.
Perhaps one day we will have an organization like Boon and Crocket, or Pope and Young
for air guns. If you would like to see any of this come to be all you need to do is come hunt

If you live in a state that does not allow air gun hunting and would like
to see that change. The fastest way to get there is to go hunt one that does
