So I ordered a “budget” pump, 4500psi but it didn’t come with any lube or oil. What could I use?

Non petroleum! Unless you want to explore the energy potential of a diesel engine. (Not recommended)

Pure silicone oil. You should be able to pick it up at a hobby shop. Silicone grease can work in a pinch but it can be sticky and make it harder to pump.

If it is a Yong Heng pump, They recommend using #46 hydraulic oil in the crank case. (I would not use silicone oil or grease in the crank case of any compressor!)

Just a word of caution. When it is time for the first disassembly for maintenance, be careful when you remove the pump tube from the bottom block (the part the foot holds are attached to). The block may contain TINY glass beads that are next to impossible to pick up after they spread across the floor.....

My understanding is that Silicon lubricant is good for O rings only. For metal-to-metal contact, Silicon lubricant does not work very well. Suggest to use PTEF oil or grease which is good for both O-rings and metal-to-metal.

Use pure silicone oil. There are no metal to metal contact of MOVING parts in the pump. All moving parts in the pump have o-rings between them. Do not use any type of lubricant that is combustible or is mixed with anything combustible (the propellant in some spray cans).

I am no expert but I just want to share my findings from my hand pumps.
After looking inside my hand pumps, i found almost no metal to metal contacts. In fact too many orings to keep up.
If one can't find a trusty silicone grease, just get a small tube of hill grease (a bit pricey) and save yourself a headache. It should last a while and use a VERY thin coat on shaft when needed.
I like grease better than oil because oil does not stick like NLGI2 type silicone grease. Hill grease, molykote , diver grease and etc.
And Non petroleum +1
Also a decent moisture filter would help.

I ordered a 8 oz. bottle of pure silicone treadmill oil for less than 10 dollars shipped. It works great and should last longer than I want to use a hand pump.
