New RAW chassis - disappointing 1st day

you need to talk to motorhead "scott" and there is a few other guys that maybe can help . i would back that hammer down some
Backed the hammer down from factory 946ish settings last night to upper 920’s — didn’t play with it today. I will play with it some more another day. Will bring chrony.
Seems like your groups are shrinking. Still, try adding a moderator and see and make sure to size the Redesigns as they are known for fliers....have you tried a different tin? Also try some 18gr.

I tried a few different things today. I do want to try an air stripper, maybe even a muzzle brake. Not easy to find stuff. Moderators are forbidden in NJ. I can’t use one at this range - gotta find another alternative.

I did try some 18 grn jsb — they are running around 1060 fps as set up — actually was decent. Pic to follow.

when first reading this thread & said to self when read ... Balistol !!! While it may clean, itself is NOT clean and leaves trace residue. YOU WANT A CLEAN BARREL !

Re-clean barrel and have a final patch or 2 of a Clean Zero residue solvent such as Naptha or just use White gas / Coleman fuel.

Just a suggestion ...

interesting, I can certainly do that. I did run a dry patch thru but just dry.

Do you have any suggestions on a muzzle device thats not a moderator?

Any luck with your accuracy?
Haven’t been out again.
I did make some changes though. Remounted the scope in a taller set of rings. I had med. ARC rings on there, went to high EGW rings. Was just waiting for black friday sales.

While I had the scope off, I pulled the barrel and cleaned. Only way to get it clean was with a bore brush, probably 8 to 10 passes. Used hoppes #9 followed by naptha then a real light coat of eezox as a metal protectant.

Guess I’ll see what happens this week. Also picked up some JSB monster redesigned. I can‘t find a difference vs the FX branded 25.4 pellets that I’ve been using but maybe they’ll fly different.

Before you shoot the Redesigns by JSB or FX, make sure to sort them by head size and weight to see what your barrel prefers, or you will get fliers. Nice group with the 18gr @ 100. On the same tune, you might want to try some 20-23gr slugs, my barrel likes .2175 diameter, yours might be different, many options to try.

What slugs have you found to work well out of a poly barrel?

Thru my .22 LRT, the NSA 17.5gr .2175. They fit snug in my breech and lands while loading.
Here are 2 different groups touching each other, dialed a few left then a couple down, this is @ 30yds (these slugs POI is higher than pellets (@ same POI) even though they are traveling a tad slower, shows how a slugs BC is so much better than a pellets. Shoot them on the same tune as the JSB 18gr pellets, slugs @ 935-ish and pellets @ 950-ish. If any slugs in the tin go into the breech without much resistance, that slug will 98% of the time be a FLIER and will not group worth a darn, only snug fitting slugs (in a non choked barrel) group well. Shots were taken quickly just to see if they would group. Can clean up accuracy with more tuning with speed but I only shoot slugs for pesting and have taken ground squirrels out to close to 120yds with this tune and slugs/pellets.

That's pretty encouraging!!! I'm still not sure if I want a .22 Raw chassis to shoot slugs or MRD's. It will be used for target work and pesting. I'm leaning towards a powerhouse slug shooter, but accuracy is most important.
GY! Depending on your budget, the new RTI Prophet 2's also shoot slugs well. The newer AAA with a TJ non choked 4 groove barrels are excellent slug shooters. I know someone, Customcutter has been shooting H&N slugs from his .22 RTI P2 with pellet accuracy FYI. I shoot targets mostly hence why I shoot 18gr pellets with my de-tuned RAW for ammo cost purposes as I shoot almost daily. As you know .22 Monster Redesign are pellets that are almost slugs! LOL! The build quality of my RAW is second to none plus very simple platforms to work on.

Yeah, I'm a huge Raw fan too! I plan to sell my Skyhawks and Ares scopes to fund the .22 Raw. I want to have only these 2 rifles for consistency and for sharing parts (which should be unnecessary given how they are built). I actually already have the barrel, I just need Martin to make the action for me.
Well, I hope you get an action tonfit hour barrel from the man Martin! I too am a huge RAW/Martin fan, he builds incredible PCP's!
