I finally built myself a new range yesterday. My wife was ok with my using our covered patio with moderated .25's but when I moved to big bores patience wore thin and justifiably so as they are LOUD ! It is arranged South to North to minimize the wind effects since it usually blows from a southerly direction. I marked it off at 50, 75, 100, 125, 200, 300 and 400 yards (all verified by my MTC Rapier Laser Range finder) but I have room to extend to 500 as soon as I get the grass mowed down. Flags are the usual plastic grocery store bags With the bottom split they make good wind socks. I plan to use it for long range airgun shooting AND my 6.5X55 Swedish Sporter. I will probably construct a movable heavy bench at some point but for now will use my Harbor Freight Shooting (welding) Table. I had become spoiled to the covered patio so I will rig a tarp to my Mule with a couple of guyed poles for shade. Here are a few pics:
200 yards is a long way. 400 is a REALLY long way!
