New to air rifles

I'd look at the Umarex Notos, it only comes in .22, but is very accuate and will efectively reach out 50 yards. It's light weight, regulated and already backyard friendly, all for under $300.

The unfortunate thing, no one seems to have one in stock at the moment! But, you could always pre-order and get on the list...

Welcome to the Forum, best advice is to search YouTube for Matt Dubber's, "Airgun Ballistics ,101" video series. Each one is short, easy to follow and will quickly bring you up to speed. Any information we'll share might jump around a bit, best to get a firm foundation, then build on that, at least, that's how it worked for me. Best of Luck, WM

I give the same answer almost every time.

Gamo Urban. Made in the UK 270-300 bucks
Hand Pump 60 bucks
Ammo 4 tins of 14.3g crosman hollow points. 28 bucks
Hawke 4x scope 100 bucks

For break barrels a hw95

Have fun.

10 shots at 25 yards , 1" dot

Lot of hunting guides on the internet.

There are others.

Value for the money, I like the RWS 34.

An advantage of a gun like the Notos which doesn't hold a lot of air is it isn't hard to hand pump. I started with a Marauder Pistol (Prod) which shares that attribute. It won't give you a lot of shots, however, and it is not the most powerful PCP. But I think it's a great first PCP. I still own and like my Prod. It should give you about 20 fpe which will cleanly kill squirrels and rabbits and birds. My Prod has killed 15 squirrels for me so far.

I am the biggest limitation on my PCPs accuracy. From the bench I have shot a 200 on the 30 yard challenge with my P35-22 and a 193 with my Prod. The 10 ring is about 1/8th inch. At 30 yards. I can hit my 1/4 inch wide swinging target on my "know-your-limits" target sitting on a drywall bucket with a bipod at 25 yards. But not every time and not-so-much with the Prod. All of my 5 PCPs are accurate enough to reliably hit squirrels in the head at 25-30 yards if I do my part.

Pellet guns will shoot literally hundreds of yards but the pellets have low BCs so they drift in the wind quite a bit. You also have to deal with the trajectory. I am a lot more comfortable taking shots at squirrels within about 35 yards. It's more of my ability to place the shot than anything else. The guns could easily work at 50 yards or more.

I think the suggested gamo urban is a good starter. Very accurate gun and shoots really well even with crosman 14.3 gr pellet variants. Will push the 14 grainers very well up near 900 fps. Not a ton of shots (20 really good consistent ones) but very hand pump friendly. Fill to right around 3k or just under and shoot 2 mags and then about 50 pumps or so you are ready to rock again.
